I'm going night fishing for the first time on Saturday. I've spent quite a bit on sleeping bag, bivvy, etc etc and can't afford bite alarms with a receiver. I have normal bite alarms. Is it wrong or against the rules to have normal bite alarms bleeping late at night when they are not one's that work with a receiver?

Many, many, many, many, many people who have a reviever STILL put their alarms in full volume and the reciever on full volume too.
I often use alarms with no reciever, i always set my bivvy up as close to the rods as is practical and turn the volume down but loud enough so you can hear them. And make sure you turn them off when you are setring your rods up etc. You'll be fine. Recievers arent needed in most swims.
Its nice to see you asking questions like this as you clearly dont want to annoy others on the lake. You might find quickly not everyone else is so empathetic to other anglers!

No of course not, there is a element of decorum with bite alarms just make sure you can be awoken if you get a run. Don't tighten your line through a alarm, set your indicator when your happy with its tautness and then and only then turn your alarm on. Always do a check before you get in your bag for the night, bivvy door open.

The main thing I find with night fishing is to keep a tidy bivvy/swim and know where things are that you might need etc. Also, I know it sounds obvious but either sleep with your head torch on or in your pocket.
Get everything ready long before it gets dark in case you get a fish at dusk.

I wonder just as a question what many people would do if their receiver packed in while on the bank, surely they would then have to rely on the alarm volume?
As for alarms, have the volume loud enough so that they wake you up, but quiet enough hopefully to NOT annoy other anglers.
You could have your alarms on full blast on my lake, and no-one else would hear them. Very rare to be closer than 100metres to the nearest other angler, unless 2 are having a social.
Keep your swim tidy, everything in its place.
I'm still a fan of using the old "Sounder Box" that plugs into the socket on the alarm for their reliability. The only problem is, not all alarms now have that output socket for me to use one of my "Sounder Boxs". ie, my new Nash R3's
Last year, I was actually thinking of converting one of my Sounder boxs to have an output socket and then I could use one of my ATTX dongles and use it with my ATTX receiver for when I just go for a call of nature or visit the next swim etc.

ATTS alarm users dont seem to have any what if problems
personally I have the heads on as low as its possible to go purely for setting them up and recasting nobody else can hear them
its only pig ignorant selfish noddys that have heads on full blast all night with their doors zipped up tossers
