I know there are a lot of people who don't like fishing at Linear because its so busy, but its only a 30 minute drive from where I live and Id like to try it regardless.
When is the quietest time to go and what lake would you recommend for someone who is relatively new to carp fishing?

Mid week is best - my favourite lake is far end swims of hunts corner - esp left hand looking at lake.
Others are all the back swims on Manor- plus two of the swims on Manor off the car park (through the gaps in the hedges) often difficult to bank on a lake let alone a swim. I fish linear syndicate now - but that is like a 3 or 4 year wait for a space!

I had a spate of health issues at the end of last year - so first time out was 2 weeks ago on linear syndicate - had 24hrs but didnt catch - but just wanted to be there. Next time I will catch!!
I fished linear up until 3 years ago. It started getting really busy then so I switched to Horseshoe lake at Lechlade- cut your teeth on linear - then move onto horseshoe!

Good to hear your back out fishing again mate. Interestingly, I recently made a post on the top anglers of today and most people said a top angler is one who carries on fishing through adversities in their life so you can consider yourself one of them!
I actually live closer to horseshoe lake than linear fisheries but I was put off by the cost of it. Have you fished any other lakes in the cotswolds? Thinking of trying Whelford pools soon

Ive been there twice this month 1st time was alright few swims available on B2. but this week went on Tuesday and it was crazy busy mate. walked around 5 lakes all with no free swims.
But got lucky because there was some booked swims that people didnt show up, and the guys told us that we could have them if we wanted just had to ask the bailiff to confirm

A few guys on here fish Horseshoe - some nice fish in there. I enjoyed my time there. Not too expensive if you get an annual ticket and fish regularly.

Linear is an amazing venue, there's no getting away from it. The only problem is that it's sooo busy - in fact on the occasions I've been I've had very little choice in swim, that being said I've almost always managed to have a good session landing fish time. I think possibly smiths pool would be a good spot to introduce someone new to carp fishing, as it takes big casting out of the equation and has great potential closer in the margins. The fish are stunners also!

Another fan of Smith's, 20s I'd say with bigger fish around, the first swims from the car park need experience and knowledge to get the most out of, I fished further down where it was quieter and had 3 out in 48 hours, not many but I was happy with it.plenty of weed which I enjoy fishing amongst, that was a year ago though.

Fish whenever you like, I found the average stamp of fish to be around mid twenty, but they are all lookers.

Not just a turn up and fish complex now, lakes closed on far too many occasions now, think they need to rethink there strategies on who pays their bills.

I'd say that the fact you cant get a swim on the complex means they don't need a rethink!
