Used these for the first time having had them brand new. However when turning the handle, at a certain point on the rotation, the handle hits the bail arm on its way round. Any one else encountered this?

Sounds like the bailarm is slightly bent, they can be gently bent back with a bit care. It may be bent in the horizontal plane rather than vertically if you see what i mean, Tight rod sleeves can cause this sometimes or perhaps it was simply out of shape from manufacture

Return it to the shop for replacement.

You know what, a mate of mine had the same issue. Took the reel back and exchanged for another, which was OK. Not really sure what the underlying issue was though. I'd stick to Shimano - the higher end Daiwa big pits always seem to be problematic.

Does it need to be turned into another Daiwa vs Shimano thread.Shimano are not issue free by a very long way,clickers,gearing,breaking line guards,bending bail arms the list goes on.If I was buying reels again it would be penn affinity for my distance set up and okuma 6000's on my 10fts,I would have saved a bloody fortune

Just saying it's not only top end Daiwa reels,none of these top end reels are worth the money.I have had most in last few years and the penn 7000ltd is as good as them.
