I caught a carp today that had a fair few fish lice on it, and was looking pretty beaten up, from spawning no doubt. This is the first I've seen from the lake with that amount and although I got as many as I could off and treated with carp care, I wondered if there's anything else that can be done to help them out or prevent them?

Lake I used to fish they used to have spray bottles of salt water to treat when caught. No idea if this works or not I am no expert.

There is usually a root cause of there being a lot of argulus on carp...low dissolved oxygen, poor water quality, poor nutrition etc

If there are loads of argulus on fish, especially in the summer, then the fishery will have an argulus issue. There are only proactive ways to counter it, which include introducing argulus egg laying “traps” which you remove before the eggs hatch and over time you'll slowly wipe out the majority of the population.
Speaking to the EA or some Google research is the route the owners should go down and fast as when the fish slow down for winter it will only get worse!

Thankyou, this is the worst I've seen, I've never really noticed them on any of the other carp in the lake so I'm assuming this particular fish had some health issues and was an easy target. Just a shame there doesn't seem to be anything we can put on them to repel lice, but I guess they are a bit different to dogs and cats haha I've heard differing opinions about garlic being a repellant in feed but might add some into my boilie/pellets mixes

Thanks, I'll make sure to look any others over but I've not really noticed it until I pulled this guy out. Awful little things and I'm not going to pretend it didn't make me shudder having them on my hands
hopefully this was a one off and the fish had ill health previously making it an easy target, and not a sign of a more serious infestation.
