I've noticed that there's some lakes around Lakeside Shopping Centre (Thurrock/Essex)...
There's a big lake between Arena Essex and Thurrock Service station.
There seems to be some old news articles from the early 2000s about people fishing there and then a fish kill in the mid 2000s. Just wondering if anyone has any information on the lake, is it fishable once more, anyone know how I would gain access...?
There's also some lakes in and around Chafford Gorge. Anyone know if these are fishable?
They're reasonably local and the Arena Essex lake looks great from the service station but I have no idea what the current situation is with it!

Arena essex is a syndi and going by a thread about it the other day you need recommending
I used to live if Chafford back 2010, used to take my daughter over the gorge, from memory you could fish it but i only ever saw silvers in there and never saw anyone carp fishing there. Prob worth ringing the nature centre at the top of the gorge they will give you some upto date info

Just saw the other thread - bit of a coincidence for someone else to post about it at the same time considering how 'unknown' it is!
Hate the whole 'need to know someone' aspect of this... what if you don't know someone????
Thanks, might give them a go - saw a couple of people bivvied up there a few months ago but from what I can gather online there's no carp... maybe there is now.
Wouldn't mind fishing for a few silvers for a couple of hours after work to be fair...

Arena Essex is a syndicate and pretty much invite only and hush hush. I used to fish it when it a day ticket as a kid and plenty of 30s back then with some almost record size perch in there. Talking nearly 25 years ago.
It then became syndicate and me and my dad couldn't afford to join. It went on to produce some very large carp to just below the record levels of the time about 15year back then had large fish kill.
A new syndicate then formed and is completely no disclosure. unless you know the people in charge you will never get on.. but the whole of the Arena Essex has been brought for property development and in plans the lake and area around it will be open as nature park for public, so I assume at end of the syndicate lease it may go back to a day ticket open Access water, haven't a clue when that is. There are plenty of big fish in there, on a warm still day you can see them from the services carpark above.
The chafford gorges are split in 2. The lake below the nature centre says no fishing but people do fish and don't get stopped only every seen perch, silvers and odd jack pike. Don't think there is any carp in there as when I lived in chafford and ran round the gorges I never spotted any in there.
The gorge of Devonshire road however does have a few carp to around low 30s and is a membership only about 10 Swims with fishing from 1 bank. There was contact info around the lake and I did enquire once and added to waiting list but told it could be years as only small membership. The gorge is lovely but not really place I would wanna be a member now days as no facilities, the parking is dodgy, kids swimming there in the summer and public footpath behind the swims, so not really secure plus a steep hill between carpark and the swims.

. was a good lake over the road before they built that poxy shopping centre on it. look at the cover of Eddie turners book "mega pike" that fish was from there..still can fish the small part thats left...I did have a ticket a fews years back for the gorge but got fed up being shot at by kids with airguns from the cliff..not sure whats in kenning tons nowadays? was a good fish in there bitd. picture of it in rob marlins book tiger bay..chapter the tunnel of love.

I appreciate why people keep lakes quiet and ultimately if someone owns a lake they can do whatever they want with it; but it always seems a little wrong to me to have so much secrecy and barriers up against visiting a place of what is essentially just nature. Especially when the only reason you or I can't go there is because we don't know someone... just doesn't seem fair... but I guess it is...

Yeah, must admit I did consider the danger of yobby kids while fishing the Gorge... Didn't consider airguns but not at all surprised at the suggestion...
Think if I did manage to get a ticket for it it would be just for going for a few hours during the day/evening.
