I'm looking for a budget basic rechargeable bivvy light/lamp ideally with a remote control. Anyone know of any fairly good ones for cheap? I'm only just starting out in night fishing....

Can anyone recommend whether the NGT one or the one in this link would be better please?

The NGT one has been spot on for me, had it a couple of years now. The magnets on mine didn't hold it to the bivvy roof very well, so added a couple of hooks using a paper clip and use the inner capsule fixings of my TC Pro. Also as it's quite bright I put some insulation tape along one side, so when sitting in there if I use it,it doesn't blind me

Check Sunblesa Rechargeable bivvy light with 2600 or 5000mah powerbank + hardcase.

My NGT has been excellent , full beam, half beam, red, and the useless flashing mode, the controller on mine just seems to run the batteries down over a few days, so I don't bother with it now.

I also use it to charge my phone in an emergency.

Other than the controller it's been spot on for £20.

If your technically minded, you can just buy the parts from China off Ebay, the sensor and remote, a bulb, many types to suit from an all round bulb smaller than your thumb to a flat bulb size of a 2P piece, bulb holder and some flex from Wilko's. It's then just a case of finding a battery to suit, I use an old bait boat battery. I built mine about 6 years ago and cost about £6, took about 5 minutes as all you do is connect the wires. Apart from the battery, mine fits into a perspex toothbrush holder and Velcro's to the roof of the bivvy and the flex dangles down the back of the bivvy to the battery.

These days, I just use a £3, 3watt 3AAA battery Cree light velcroed to the roof of the bivvy from Boyes or similar priced lights with a dimmer switch from Aldi's. Far less hassle, takes less space up in the tackle bag to carry unless I just leave it rolled up in the bivvy and the distance I used to reach for the remote is no different to turning the light on manually, plus no chance of misplacing the remote in the dark, and I can also use it as an hand torch if need be.

These remote lights from NGT and Ridge Monkey are just pointless gimmicks that are not essential at a high price for a light.

£20 rechargable bivvy light, but you'd rather lug round a load of components wired together in a toothpaste tube with a massive lead battery

You need to show us pictures because i cant lie, that sounds awful.

Even if the Ridge monkey is a gimmick and overpriced it's still a very good bivvy light, the powerbank even loads my smartphone faster then my Anker powercore, separate +/- buttons for each color is also useful

The bivvy lamp from Sunblesa seems ideal for a lower budget but the one from Ngt will also do the job

Your off the beaten track.

The size of the light is just a bit bigger than your index finger, about the length and width of a toothbrush, all the components are inside it including the remote receiver, the flex is nothing, it packs up wrapped around the light, and the battery can be anything from a small 12v 1.2 AH battery to 8 x AA's in a battery holder, not something "Massive" that you have dreamed up, or could even a full blown bait boat battery, or a power pack or leisure battery if you take one of those.

If I so wished, I could even build it into a small plastic box including the battery pack, and it would still be far smaller that the NGT light.

Using the smallest power source or even the 12v 1.2 AH battery, it fits in your pocket.

And how can it sound awful, tackle companies have produced similar items, notably Chub in the past, did you say the same?

I will take some pictures of it, I have been unable to post pictures for years, though, I found out it has something to do with my service provider, but, things may have changed and it may work now, when I find it as I replaced it with a small £3 light for even more simplicity. And in the same way as you put it, a "a £3 bivvy light, but you would rather lug round a massive £20 rechargeable light" that does nothing more than my small £3 light!!!

And how much do 8 AA batteries cost?

I have the origional ridge monkey light. Its small, and light and i recharge it probably once a year and when i do recharge it i can do it on the bank or in my van. Its small and light enough that it doesn't matter i rarely use it.

I understand your £3 light lights up the bivvy, but velcro sounds a bit more inconvenient than the magnetic strips you can put anywhere, and you have to replace the batteries. That aren't cheap.

I really dont see how you're better off?

Likewise, batteries last me a year or longer, the bulbs are only 1.2w to 2w and draw less than .16 to .2 amps which makes the batteries last a very long time, and as I used to use the light dimmed and rarely, the head torch gets used more , there was more chance of the batteries leaking before they flattened. Its even a bit of a shame, the moon does not shine brighter as the light will also run from my solar panel which I have used in the past to recharge AA and AAA batteries.

Oh, but, I am not supposed to do that because my light is more expensive to run than a shop bought rechargeable one despite the fact, that I get free power from the sun.

And as for velcro, its permanently fixed, in all the places I want it, so I can move the light about without faffing about with a metal plate outside and no need to remove it when I pack up and roll the bivvy up with no fear of a metal plate making a hole in the bivvy.

Oddly enough, just looking for the small round bulbs I use on Ebay, I no longer see any. But the last lot I bought were very low powered with a few tiny LED's on a plastic strip about a quarter of an inch wide by two inches and a couple of mm thick. That was to make a new light but I never did.

I like the idea of making things, but i just dont see how its viable. £6 to make it plus batteries and velcro, battery charger and solar charger, and £3 for your new light plus batteries, sounds like all in you are way over £20?

I take the battery out of the remote when I pack down and refit when on the lake, same battery for nearly 18 months it's an odd size to 🤔
