Hello all, I know - its me again. Just looking for any reviews/comparisons between the Mitchell Avocast and the Okuma 8k, which I am swapping out for a vader x pro reel that I recently bought and am not very pleased with. Any info on both reels would be much appreciated, thanks.

I have Mitchell 8000 black avocast really good reels for money can't go wrong spare spools off ebay from Germany had one lone clip break after not long but only problem I've had and I abuse my stuff

I have no experince of mitchell reels these days but okuma are spot on , however i had 8ks for a very short while found they unbalanced every rod i tried them on , really big reels.

I have 3 x Mitchell Avocast 7000's, and also 3 of the same reels but the free spool version. They are both very good, had no issues whatsoever with either model. Just bought a spare spool for the free spool version, a bit tricky to find, ended up getting one from Spain.
I also have Okuma Inc 6000's on my 10' setup, they are also spot on. They are the mini big pit version, whereas the 8k are BIG pits. I seem to remember reading on here someone did have an issue with Okuma reels, something to do with the anti reverse and the spring under the spool. Think he said it was an issue on ALL Okumas, but mine have been OK so far (have only used them for about half a dozen sessions). Do a quick search for it, if you can't find it, come back to me, and I'll have a look for it.

I have had okuma interceptors for probably 30 years without any issue,also interceptor mk 2 think they are no probs , ive got new 6000 inceptions so far no probs, okuma have been around a long time.Also have a couple of fly reels.

I have the okumas 6000 custom black on both my two 10 ft and 12ft rods lovely reels.
Great clutch well balanced.
I also have 2 spare ones if you're interested thinking 9 we enough 😆😆

Thanks for that mate, it was interesting to find that out. It seems like though that the reviews on the whole are quite good for okuma, and if there is a problem such as the one mentioned on the link to the thread, it can be fixed.

One of my 6000 Inc's had the anti reverse problem , the other two are fine. It is s bit disconcerting when it goes when you're playing a fish. I'll get around to replacing the spring one day.

I have the okuma custom black big pit as a back up reel. Used it a few times now and really like it. Good reel for only £45 only negative is they say it has a quick drag but if it's a quick drag I'd hate to see the standard drag

Im a huge fan of Okuma. They have some amazing reels in there range but I think many consider them a budget reel.
I use the 8K on my range set up and cannot fault them. Ive had several sets of higher end reel and would honestly choose Okuma again. Everything those high end reels can do but for a fraction of the price.

What rods did you pair with them? Were they a high TC 12-13ft rod? I am looking for a reel to pair with a Vader x RS rod, 3.25lb TC, and the 8k looks a very big reel to pair with a rod as such of the Vader of the TC I have

The 8K has a huge spool. Better line lay than the Tourney 6000TS and a faster retreive. Slightly lighter too.
I bought shallow spools, at half price from a company in eastern Europe as well. Had the 8k 2 years now without a single issue.
