I've just upgraded my spod reel to this one.

Do I need to put a some backing on before putting 300m of braid on, or does the 300m of braid sit at the right level without the need for any backing?

Depends what diameter the braid is, I'm sure you will need some backing...

Id always use a mono backing for braid no matter what, so it doesnt slip on the spool.
