Didn't there used to be a modification you could do to these to stop the expander bung in the end from failing The part that locks the inner to the outer pole
Was it described on here ? Or elsewhere ?

Hi, if you have old version of bung, wasn't split right to the ends.
New/ replacement ones, spilt right to the ends, spread out at end, rather than bulge.
Mine had new bung, but phoned Drennan & now got a free spare.
Tackle shops had new ones for nowt, but thats years back.

If you mean the twist lock one I've clearly been lucky had mine 15 years plus and been problem free.
The thing is they do need regular maintenance (take apart and clean) lots of the bungs fail due to being over tightened.

If the bung is ok (it's located in the end cap when unscrewed) try giving it a coat of candle wax or paint it (to build it up so it grips) all else fails think you can get a replacement bung from drennan,

It's the second or third one I ve had Bung that is
Did seem to be a lot of carbon deposits when I cleaned it off
Tried splaying it out Didn't work
Might try the candle trick next
It might have been on a Barbel forum I saw the modification

Spray a little furniture polish on the bung..
