I have an old ESP spod and marker rod setup but only really use the spod on a loop set up these days for leading about or spombing, it is a bit cumbersome and not the best at transmitting the pull back through the blank even on braided mainline whilst the marker rod is 3.5tc it is a bit lightweight for general spombing, I don't really want to be carrying two rods for both applications so will be selling the ESP setup on so looking for a single decent Application rod any recommendations? I don't mind spending a bit for the right one.

I use the Free Spirirt Spomb rod for both spombing/spodding and leading about on all waters. I prefer a stiff tips rod for leading about anyway. no complaints on this. think it was about 150 from memory.
I also went to this from the ESP Paragon Spod rods. lighter (as you would expect) and casts better (better recovery). have used it with large spombs upto 120 or so.

Cheers Tim for the reply I was looking at the Gardner GTA rod, I also prefer a stiffer top section but the old ESP spod rod I have is a touch on the broom handle side.

Havent seen the Gardner so wont comment, but the FS one i have definitely feels more responsive than the old ESP's i had (though they were only 45 quid, so no complaints).

I think cheaper spod rods are more poker ish myself
I had a Nash Pursuit XS one for quite a few years, around 4lb test, lovely rod and action, more of a through action compared to some, even used it for long range fishing at times purposely.
I had similar thoughts to you, my 4th rod is a treb light for distance, can use it as a long range marker or a light spomb rod, emphasis on light. I don't think a fishing type rod is the answer either, taper in the tip is a bit thin. Unless the full blow treb is the answer, cant comment?
I now use a RH dreamaker spod, decent rod and i am happy with it. I would look for something like a 4lb test spod rod of decent quality and i guess you would not be far off the mark?

Harrison torrix spod, use it for leading up and baiting, lovely bit of kit and will last a lifetime
