Consensus seems to have changed in recent years with regard to the usability of 13ft rods over 12ft. When 13ft'ers became more widely available many said they went for miles but you needed to be Arnie to compress. Now it seems people are finding that the 13ft version of the same 12ft rod has a bit more give?
Just got a set of 12'6 aviators made up and looking for a spod rod to replace my old 12ft Greys. I'll eventually get a 12'6 aviator spod made to the same spec, but lead time and budget mean I want something to be going on with.
Looking at the Tacklebox CFX range and most likely going to get the 13ft version. Interested to hear views on the 12vs13 of the same rod.

I've used a pair of Harrison 3.5 TC balisters in 13' for 20 years although I have two sets of rods in 12' my aim one day is to get a set of distance rods in 13'.
I'm quite happy to jump between to two sizes.

I only remember 2 13ft spod rods being popular in the past, the Bruce Ashby rocketeer and the fox xt, the xt is like you say, a big stiff rod, a 7oz spod can feel like throwing a 25kg bag of sand at times, great for distance but pretty much unusable below 60-70yds. The rocketeer was really popular on the lake I bought the xts for, a much nicer rod to use but I found the big chucks easier with the fox.
From looking at feedback it seems most 13ft spod now are more like the rocketeer than the fox.
I also think they have to be a bit softer, when I compare the spomb/dot/spider to the spods I used before (and had to top up with water when using boilies to compress it enough to 'feel' the cast properly) I doubt I'd put much of a bend in the xt with the modern baiting tools

I've used and still own the CFX spod rods in both 12 and 13ft. It's very easy to use and puts a large spomb miles with ease. I might buy the XP tip section soon to make distance a bit easier with big spombs, but as The Tackle Box site says, the standard tip is fine for most things. I've since bought another 13ft one which I use for a marker rod. The 12ft one has been put to one side for medium spombs and/or smaller waters - not that it struggles to cast but the 13ft really is a different animal that makes relentless spombing with heavy spombs much easier.
