At the moment I am using a sonik vader which I got for £45. I might invest in another rod and wondered if theres any better rod for the money.

You won't get much better than sonik at that sort of money, they do good rods for good prices.

I'd toyed with the idea of getting some 10' rods for a while as I'm a firm believer that a man can never have enough fishing rods. 1 got a set of 3 x 10ft Black Widows in the boxing day sales for £76 (TOTAL), an absolute bargain. And I'm not disappointed, they're a decent rod for the money. But as IP100 says, there's nothing wrong with the Sonik ones for the money also. The tackle tart in me says go for the Sonik.

I've got three Wychwood Riot rods and a 6ft wychwood extractor. Love them all. Cheap as chips but lovely action. They were about £35-40 each. If I were you I'd save more and spend around £75 per rod. You'll get some stunning rods for that via ebay.

Haven't tried Shimano rods, a local rod builder who I trust told me they were not too good.
For the Black Widows I got Okuma Inc 6000 eels, they're a mini big pit reel. A good match for a 10ft rod. But I only got this setup for small waters, presume you'll be looking at 12ft versions as an all round rod. In which case you could use a bigger reel.

I've been looking for a cheaper set of rods and the Sonik Vader RS have caught my eye. Has anyone got these and say what they're like? I'm considering the 3.25lb test for generally casting around the 100yrd mark with a small solid bag, but don't want a broomstick

I have this exact rod, am going to take it out on a trip next week, will try and inform you of how capable it is. But from what ive heard it is a great rod and is able to cast those sort of distances, especially with a small solid bag. Just send a PM next week to remind me
