Hi all,
Now that spring is nearly upon us and the night fishing is resuming I'm sorting out all my gear and thinking about what bait to use.
For spring do you all prefer particle or boilies, or even a mixture of the two?

I personally like a mix of both, but as much as anything that's because if I feel the need to bait big (not all that often) I definitely could not afford to do it boilie only. I do also firmly believe particles keep them in the area for longer with more smaller bits for them to find.

Anything you are confident in using, just don't go mad with piling bait in when the sun ☀️ comes out.
The water is still cold, so fish for one bite at a time.

I've been using a handful of boilies [fish meal] since January with a light scattering of particle, I will gradually increase the particle level as the water temperature climbs.
I'm having to remove some Leeches from a few of the fish I've been catching, some of the carp are still lethargic, as Scaley said the water is still rather cold.

Come may time it will be particles and a lot of it as I need to stop them in their tracks on the canal and then boilies on top,I squash the boilies down as I'm baiting near side of the canal so they don't sink in to silt and they also look different over the particles and more attraction leaks out,I also cover my pva bags in liquid and also get some inside too.
Well that's my theory on it any way

I use various seeds and pulses all soaked and cooked correct times and flavour them to how I want it then on day of my trip I take a bucket and tip it in ready for when I start good thing is it's that normally quite no one sees you baiting up.
Can do 10 kilos plus of particles in a trip to keep the fish in the edges and I believe they come along early morning in the edge looking for bits of corn, bread and maggots

I prefer a boilie approach in the spring mate, though this does depend on the type of water that I am on at the time e.g a Syndicate or day ticket,I will however carry some particle as a back up incase it's needed.
It can also pay to be different, try and see what everyone else is doing if you can, and try an alternative method.
Solid bags can also be a great tactic as well.

Definitly try to be different to the crowds, also hydros coating your boilies. Still dont see many people doing that, even though its written about a lot.
