Ive just ordered a 2.5 Baby Ballista to build myself after agonising over BB v multi carp. A long time since Ive done this- from the days of yacht varnish and Mum's cotton. Many, many decades ago. So hopefully this is a players rod for short range and I do like Avons. Like to feel the butt bend. 3.5lb,. 50mm. Aint interested.

So, ringing with some Kevin Baynes influence of going small and using lightest weight minimas and and more than a usual ringing (TICH?). To let the bank express itself? Any advice on spacing and size? I guess its work out a choke for your reel (no 50s or 40s. I want mine smaller than yours!). Reels aint big pit, so put the rod into a pegged out bend on the lawn and position accordingly to spread the load.
Whatdya reckon? Experiences and advice please.

I believe he builds rods on Harrison blanks.
Might be worth trying to PM him?

You should find a few articles that explain it
I rate minima guides(many don't) but I'd worry about using the smaller ones on carp rods

I've got some 12' 2lbers, and my son has some 12' 2.5lbers, all built be Kevin. Really small guides, especially on the 2lbers. They start with a 25mm butt ring, they have 2 rings on the butt section. Whereas the 2.5lbers start with a 30mm butt ring with just 1 ring on the butt section. As AJM says, message Jeffire, I think he builds rods up using small rings.

If you're totally stuck, I'll measure mine, not now though, watching the golf and had too many beers!!

I believe Bainsey uses 8 plus tip on his 12' standard sniper. 30mm butt, 8mm choker and runner, 10mm tip.
