I'm looking to get a new spod rod to use with my Aviators plus rods 13 ft 3.5. I want something that is capable of casting similar distances but I don't want to spend a fortune, probably up to £170. Also it needs to be 13 foot as I prefer this length for casting
I was things of FS CTX, FS SLite, or maybe Shimano TXA. Are there any other options I should look at too? Thanks

I know it's way, way above what you want to spend, but I highly recommend the Shimano Intensity spod and marker. It's a joy to use. Just so light. Don't feel ruined after banging out a decent amount of bait like some of the cheaper ones I've had in the past.
Took me forever to eventually pull the trigger as I couldn't justify the money. One of the best bits of kit I've bought in a long while. Glad I stumped up the lolly.

I have just bought the 12ft tacklebox cfx black edition spod rod and it is quality,they do a 13ft version too

Thanks for the reply. I understand what you're saying but I just can't justify £350 on a spod rod. - I've only recently purchased my Aviators and new reels.

It says the blanks are made in China I'm sure I read and you can have custom options to make it look like your aviators

13ft for spomb rod would be perfect for the job, I have them with my aviators, well suited.

Buying new for the money you want to spend all the rods you will be looking at will be Korean/Chinese. Only a handful of British/European rod manufacturers build blanks in house. None of them are cheap.
I bought the Tacklebox spod rod 18 months ago. Really pleased with it. Lot of rod for the money. You won't go far wrong with one of these.

I know exactly where you're coming from. I struggled with it for ages and ages. Not interested in buying expensive just because. It seems more like a fishing rod loaded up with a midi Spomb than a spod rod, purely down to the weight of it, even with a Shimano spod reel which aren't exactly light. Feels absolutely light weight.

The 13ft fs ctx is excellent for distance work and for a good price...
Had mine couple of years now and up to the job.
My mate has the 13ft aviators plus as well , he also uses the 13ft ctx and is very happy with it...

Yes I'll certainly consider this one. I used to have ctx's as my main rods so I have a decent idea of what they are like although I've never tried the spod one though.
