My very well used JRC contact sqr pod had fished its last day session. I'm now after something new and possibly less bulky.
Anyone got any recommendations?
Must be a pod as, the lakes I fish, you'd need to be popeye to get bank sticks in the swims!

What's your budget? If you have a good one, defiant mps, all the way.
If you can stretch as far mate get yourself a jag black super compact mk2 pod mate brilliant pod
To be honest, haven't even thought about budget. I'd probably want to stay the good side of £150 but if something is obviously good for more than that, I'm flexible.
I've heard the defiant mps mentioned a few times on here. What's so good about them? I've never seen one in the flesh

Have a look on the defiant mps page,I own one and it's the best pod I have used.They are titanium so strong but not heavy and will last you a lifetime,I have got grubscrew fittings on mine,I love it

I am in no doubt the mps pods are brilliant but you want less bulk than the jrc the mps looks like there big with lots of bits a pieces you sound like you go light and want something quick lots of people on here recommend the jag micro pod take a look not cheap

I have owned a Solar Worldwide for 15 years, now P1, best pod and most versatile around not been bettered during that time and probably won't be sure the others are lighter yet that works against a pod anyway. The Jag and Defiant comes close and are great pods and they look nice.
I'd look on the bay for a second hand one of any of the 3 mentioned if you don't like it you'll get your money back.
Alternatively buy a cheap one my first pod was made by gardner 35 years ago having mashed up every bank stick I could get my hands on whilst fishing a gravel pit. After that always used a pod, initially the Sod Pod by Solar.
I'd look on the bay for a second hand one of any of the 3 mentioned if you don't like it you'll get your money back.

???. The mps pods are light and quick to set up. Most users leave the bank sticks and buzzers attached to the buzz bars and carry those in chair or mat.
They can also be broken down into singles or a 2 and 1set up in seconds.

Yes I remember the Gardner pod it came out after my mate who invented the rod pod 1985 went to a tackle company to show the pod he had made and they said it wouldn't sell shortly after the Gardner a kjb pods came out we said at the time he should patent it he didn't

I'm going for this one next just not sure if to go with adjustable or non adjustable buzz bars yet. I was originally gonna get the nano/micro prefer the look of the super though

I have had two of them and I found them an absolute pain in the dick to set up.I got the mk2 black with 2+1 buzzbars and used it twice and got rid.I could not seem to get the front and back to line up properly so it always looked out of shape.One of my mate has it now and he finds the same and hardly uses the pod base

How can you be sure your mate invented the pod? I'm not saying he didn't but around the same time period I saw someone using something made of 3 bits of wood. A piece at front and back and a long centre piece. Into that was screwed some banksticks. This was on a North West canal

I can't be sure but everyone we saw was using bank sticks and monkey climbers and he saw a lot of people he would set up on June 16th and going home in November moving swim every 4 or 5 days on a big day ticket water where you could buy a season ticket for £20 season also when he went for meeting with big tackle company they said never thought of it didn't think it was good idea so there might of been other home made ones who's to know he made one for 5 of us and when companies brought one out it looked very similar to his one

We were fishing an area on a lake that had been covered in tarmac, to help disabled members out, this would have been around '83/84. We had made tripods out of stainless banksticks and a stainless boss. Great they were but a nightmare to line front and back up, so we fashioned a cross bar between 2 legs and voila. a rod pod, they have been around in various guises for a good while now. Mostly homemade as much of the gear was back in the day.
