Hello all. I am very new to this forum, after only joining yesterday as I have visited as a guest in the past and found some very useful information. I am looking for a reel to pair with my Sonik Vader X RS 3.25 12ft rod. I have looked at many reels such as the diawa crosscast qd, shimano aerlex 10000 xtb, Sonik Vader X Pro, the wychwood riot 75s and so on. But I cannot decide which to pick because I am worried about the quality or the line clip and other things. This is going to be my first carp fishing setup so I don't want to buy the wrong thing and have to buy another reel. I'm on a budget for about £70 a reel give or take a few pounds. The basic things I am looking for is that I want to be able to cast over 100yrds as the water im going to be fishing may require some longer casts. Can someone advise my on any reels in the price bracket that meets my needs? Or am I overthinking this too much? Any advise would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. The best thing to do is to use the search function, put reels in the search box, tick the tackle section and see what it throws up. Of course, this will throw up all types of reels covering all budgets, so you will have to wade through them. Good luck.
My recommendation for a £70 reel would be the Mitchell Avocast, there are 2 models, one free spool and one not. Or consider second hand ones, you may get some Shimano's or Daiwa's if you're lucky.

Yeah, they're good for the money. When they first came out a few years ago, they were on special offer, 3 for the price of 2. I picked up 3 of the non free spool models for about £110, and was so impressed with them, I also bought 3 of the free spool ones for about the same price!! An absolute bargain, but even at £70 apiece, they're still good value. You'll be hard pushed to find a better NEW reel for this price.

The non free spool versions are 665g (says it on the box). Don't know about the free spool versions because the boxes are up the loft, but they'll be about the same. Can chuck well over 100 yards with both, but the non free spool ones are better for longer casting as the spool is longer. No problems so far.

I've got a set of Silver Shimmano Technium Mags 10000XSB which are great but very expensive.
And a set of Okuma INC-8000 reels loaded with braid that get used regularly on certain waters. For about £60 a reel they are amazing and incredible valve. Throughly recommend them and are as nice to use as the Mags!

Daiwa Emblem Golds/Black will last you a decade using 12lb with a shock leader for 100 plus yards etc. Nice and light trouble free fun. Good retrieve compact and yet hold a lot of line reliable and with the best line guards on the market.
