Good Evening Gents,

First post, had to get away from the Facebook pages as they are filled with people willy waving etc...

I have been contemplating rolling my own boilies for sometime an I was wondering if there was a popular kit that people could point me towards?

My waters seem to favour smaller baits so was thinking of making 10 and 12 millers.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks alot.

Depends on how many you are looking to roll
You could get away with a mixing bowl hand gun and a Gardner boilie roller and boil in a saucepan
Or you can step it up with 20 litre mixer air compressor gun set up and something like a boilie Benz rolling machine

Start off small. If you make big batches that turn out to be **** then you'll waste a lot of money chucking stuff in the bin

I'd suggest a cheap hand rolling gun from eBay. They are available for about £20. Metal construction. Avoid the really cheap Gardner one. It's pony.

Next buy the smallest size Gardner rolling table. Go to b&m and get a mixing bowl and a sieve. Go on eBay and get a few syringes for measuring liquids.

For small batches then once they are boiled you don't need fancy drying racks. Just get a cat litter tray and Chuck an old tea towel in it.

I've recently started doing this and its been great fun and very satisfying to catch on your own bait.

I'd get the basic gardner gun, a small rolling table (I went for 14mm). I got the syringe kit from John Baker but then bought a whole bunch more from ebay which were much cheaper. You'll need different sizes from 1ml to 20ml.

Key thing is to get started with 100g basemix or 1 egg mixes so you can practice.

Looks like I have a lot to learn. Ingredients and cooking is going to be the next thing to research

My advice Is start with the approved mix on this forum.

Cooking Is simple. Boil the water. Chuck them in. Keep them moving. When they float they are done. This isn't the same for high milk or pop up mixes. They need shorter cooler boiling

To start with just boil in a pan. Then you can move onto deep fat fryers

A large Gardner bait table is a good starting point. I will say this, rolling small baits will drive you mental. Will take forever to roll out say 10kg of 10mm bait, my brain hurts thinking about it.

You know you can always roll out your sausages, wrap them in cling film and boil them? Once left to cool, just chop them up into funky shapes and sizes, like chops in essence. A real time saver, and anyway, if it's going out in a Spomb, you know?

I'm sure you will get lots of advice and it's up to you
what one you choose, I would say start
with the mix, 50% semolina and 50% soya flour do
this by weight, can be bought from local shops, as said
below start with a 1 egg mix, mix the powders so you
have more than is needed so you don't run out, if you
haven't done this already look on youtube, don't be shy
ask as many questions you want thats how most of us
started, good luck
