Hi all,
So I've got a set of Daiwa Basia 17 45 SLD's and since owning them I've noticed the line gets caught behind the spool quite a lot.
I'm aware a lot of people have this issue but am putting too much line or is there any other anyone has at all ? Also if anyone has any experience is the slow oscillation upgrade from WD worth it ?

I have basiairs and have the same issue, it's the only thing that bugs me about them.

Weston don't have slow oscillation worm shafts for Basia SLD. I have ordered mine from SCR and it doesn't fit (it's longer than the original one). So I ask Andy about it and he said that his worm shafts are not suitable for SLD.

All, that you can do, just add some ball bearings to your reel.
If you have SLD QDX you can add 3 bearings (2 in line roller and one in the support of the worm shaft)
If you have SLD QD you can add 4 ball bearings (2 in line roller, 1 in the support of the worm shaft, 1 in knob) and of course you can change wooden handle.
Maybe later Weston will do slow oscillation. Will see...

I've had my Basia sld since they came out and don't suffer with line going behind the spool at all.
I do however have the line very much coned to the back of the spool using 2 of the thicker washers and 1 thin one.
Have a look at Terry Edmonds spool loading clip on youtube if your not sure how to do this...I think I'm right in saying he uses 4 washers behind his Shimano spools to aid with casting and also to stop the line going behind the spool.
I've also just bought a set of the Basia scw as well and I have to say the scw line lay is better but it's not night and day better.
In fact the new Basia is cheaper than the sld...and you can tell too.
The sld is like a rapier...the scw is like a battle axe in comparison but it is considerably cheaper.
Will the new reel out cast the old one...I'll be putting it to the test soon

Absolutely shocking with line getting stuck behind the spool irs the reason I sold mine. It's a poor design as the recess under spool catches any loop that goes behind the spool. I have had to cut the line to untangle it in some instances when using fluro.
It's the same on Basiairs too where as the original silver Basia don't have the same moulding.

I think a lot of it is down to how tightly the line is wound onto the reels, I get this issue when using lighter leads a lot more than with heavy leads.

Strange thing is Castizm.and ISO have a lineguard. Why would you not add it , manufacter and user view?

Imagine its the weight. Whole point of the basias was to be the lightest reel in that bracket wasnt it?

I've just dug them out and it seems it's every so slightly tapering to the front so I'm guessing I need to add a washer or two, any advice on using the thicker or thinner if it's just ever so slightly front loaded ?
Also anyone have a clue what the odly shaped black thing is that comes with the pack of washers, seems to have an adhesive back ?

The black thing is a sticker for reel. You should use it when your rod have carbon reel seat or Shimano type (TX2, TX5).
Add one red washer and the line lay will be perfect.
