I used to make bait a very long time ago
And I'm tired of buying hook baits so when I found my old rolling table
I felt inspired to give it a go
I made some up and put them in a glycerin type glug to preserve them
It just make them to hard for me
I've ordered some preservative , but while reading up on all things bait
It seems that salt, sugar will just draw the moisture out just like the glycerin
I'll need to add egg white powder as I'm not happy with the toughness of my bait
I could knock them up and put in the freezer
But for convenience , just like any bait you can buy is it going to spoil the bait

Are you making hookbaits from a pop up mix or your basemix?

Just a bottom bait mate , my mix won't roll very well but I'm only making an eggs worth
So I have no problems hand rolling
Nothing much has changed in the bait game from what I'm reading lol
I've ordered a hookbait kit from essential baits , I'm going to tinker with my mix alongside this
to start with
What I'm struggling with is if I preserve a bait won't it effect whatever's going on with it internally
I'm not silly enough to try and split the atom messing with aminos, enzymes blah blah blah
I'm just happy to have a reasonably food bait that will be eaten lol
I do understand it shouldn't be eaten but surely if any of this bait making stuff is of any use it should get
Me more bites than a piece of plastic

glug it in some amino liquid and coat with powder attractors and it will not go bad easily, you can always freeze what you are not gonna use in shorth term.

Because I like a soft feed bait I have to make my own hard hook baits. I add a little Whey gel and egg albumin to toughen them up. For convenience, I can keep them in a pot with my pop ups, I do use a preservative. I also up the liquid additives slightly, perhaps double what's in my feed baits, I do this as I do boil for longer and the bait is skinned more than freebaits. Finally I glug in a glycerine based glug.

I have never felt using hook baits like this has affected my results, far from it.

Looking at whey gel and albumin and leaving out the eggs
How much of each would anyone recommend?

I prepare them in one egg mixes, I would not recommend making without egg.

I use approx two heaped teaspoons of both whey gel and egg albumin to 200gm of basemix, give it a good mix and add to the single egg plus liquids which includes 10ml of liquid preservative

I use the liquid bait preservative from BAF, I only use for hook baits so don't need a lot.

Opened a tin of worms returning to bait making lol
All the stuff I read years ago by Mr Hutchinson still seem to apply
So many attractors to choose from
Think I'll stick with the hookbait kit
I hope it contains all the ingredients that the normal base mix has
and work from this,

What makes things so confusing is everyone's
Views of aminos and adding bucket loads
Most of the meals contain them , all foods do
I understand carp can determine if a food is edible etc
But I've caught plenty on plastic corn and using pop ups that are
basically plastic in terms of being a food source
In the short term I'm aiming for a bait that stays on my rig
And contains foodstuffs that I can then modify to use as pop ups if the
need arises
Back in the day if I could of got hold of bloodworm meal , crayfish meal I would have
though these items to be the perfect , I'm sure they work , but would have expected to carp
to climb the bank to get them😂

Yes lol
I'm looking forward to it, I think the kits contain the same stuff as the base but with extra hardeners added, personally I think it's better to start simple otherwise it becomes tempting to add a bit of this & that and before long you've lost yourself!
Good luck with it.

My life is now considering any item as a viable bait ingredient 😂
My poor fish in the pond can't figure out what's going on
The wife thinks I've lost the plot
Funny enough my fifteen pound pop ups I purchased are still floating around the pond
after two weeks😂
Are you sure?
