Last Christmas i was fortunate enough to upgrade some of my gear before going away to France and at the time had a price limit on what i could afford rod and reel wise. In the end i settled for a set of Shimano Tx5 12ft 3.5lb Intensity rods and the Shimano Power Aero 14000 XTB reels.
Having owned these for a year now I cant say im in love with the rods but they have done me ok, certainly on my syndicate where i will fish at a maximum of 120 yards but the majority of the time between 70-100 yards.
Now here comes my polava, i recently won a competition on the carp gear giveaway site....yes i know extremely lucky....and as part of this win I won a set of Daiwa Basia Custom DCR6 reels. I would like to get a feel for what other people think about these reels compared to what i have already but also if I were to change rods again what people would recommend? So far a couple of friends have recommend i sell my current setup, go with the Basias and buy myself some infinity df x45s.

Personally if I was you I'd sell the basia's, sell the rods then put the money together to buy better rods. The shimano reels are fine. There are better sure but not much better. Much better to have a better rod imo.

3.25tc Torrix's would be a very good starting point and is the rod I use the most at under 130 yards. Off the shelf are fine but I always go to Vic for custom as i'm not that keen on the 3D rings on the standard model.

Unless you're slinging out big bags I'd be more inclined to sell it all and get a quality 2.5 or 2.75lb t/c rod from harrison/century range, something like a accurix/C2/NG and a set of mini pits like a cast'izm.
Will cover the distance you require and be enjoyable to play fish on. I have no idea why everyone is so obsessed with high t/c casting rods - as I'm sure most of your recommendations will be.

Yeah agreed. I fish one very large water and use Torrix TE whether I'm fishing under the tip or 150 yards. Far from ideal for the former but can't be bothered carrying two sets of rods and I never know where they'll be when I set off.
I fish another water where longest chuck is 100 yards and use NG 2.75 which can do the distance and so much more enjoyable to play fish on and never have to worry about hook pulls.
And for small intimate waters I use my old Armalites 2.25.
For me this is about as good as it gets, but I'm biased of course!

Torrix's in 3.25 would be far from an all out casting rod but a great all rounder. While I would agree that it seems everyone wants a set of 3.75 for a small pond and will never use them at there best, my suggestion gives scope.
