Am I the only one that has been patiently anticipating next week and the end of the furlough scheme, so that I stand a chance of getting a swim on one of my waters?!
The number of times that I have booked mid week leave from work, or managed to leave work early, only to find that the banks on a Wednesday are busier than a Sunday! I have worked throughout the whole pandemic(?!), and can't help feeling a little bitter and maybe jealous of all of these COVID full timers, that have nothing better to do with their furlough money than spend it on bait!
Rant over...apologies and sympathies to anyone who has fallen on hard times throughout the coronavirus shambles, but good riddance to those that have ridden the Furlough money train of freedom!

job support scheme replaces furlough though...employees only have to do 20% of their normal hours to attract 66% of their total wages.
granted, theres a little more to the above, but that's the basics of it....if they don't do 20% of contracted hours then they should be made redundant, so may be way more on the banks

Find the issue now is people having their french trips canceled and going down in groups wanting to fish together is cause of bigger issues now.

Or maybe many will now lose their jobs, and end up at the lake even more....

The problems I've found on the lakes I fish are people who have planned to go France for a week but can't so they been booking up other places, but I do agree I'm looking forward to the winter and hopefully some quieter banks

I've been fortunate enough to fish mid week since 2011, back then it was noticeable how quiet the banks were. In the last 3 or 4 years it seems like everyone's self employed or on shift work and now gets to fish mid week. One club water I was fishing had as many midweekers as weekend angler.
I definitely saw a noticeable difference on the banks with furlough but they've been pretty much back to a normal level since July.

I don't think its gonna get any quieter after furlough. More folks are going to be unemployed so in between finding a new job they're more likely to be popping down for a few hours fishing.
I've noticed up in the NW loads of clubs that have had their doors open to new members for years have shut them this year because they're getting battered with new applications. I'm fortunate to be in a syndicate type club which has always limited numbers so right through all this I've still been able to find a swim on my favourite lakes.
The only thing that is going to thin out numbers over the next few months is a bit of frost I'm affraid.

Not sure how many employers will take up the new retention scheme. I think a lot of businesses will just phoenix their businesses and re-open with less staff. 50k Corona loan squirreled away, no redundancy and no more furlough.
All those that have wasted their Furlough money over the past 6 moths on overpriced second hand tackle are in for a rude awakening I fear.
I hope I'm wrong.

Spot on there joe I reckon. The government tried the tactic of asking people to obey the rules. Which might have worked if the country wasn't full of selfish idiots who just do what they like. So into lockdown we go again. Marvellous.
Personally I'd have it a lot stricter this time. Get the army on the streets and crack a few of these *****s skulls and we might have a chance of a normal 2021.

Not sure if the restrictions will be that tight who knows. Hoping golf and fishing are allowed as before when rules got relaxed

Totally agree. The problem being a large amount of the "Great British Public" are pig thick morons who think it is clever to go out on the streets the night before their region moves into Tier 3. Utter scum.
