I'm having some custom rods built but need to know an exact measurement for the butt section as the shop that is sending for them to be made is recommending 3” extra fro the standard length.
I'm 6ft 2” but they have not measured me or my arms and im just worried that I might need a bit more
Any help in this please?

A rough guide is to be stood up straight with your arm out straight to your side and the rod butt tight under your armpit while you hold a reel seat slid up the blank and measure the position.

Not really a custom rod then if they don't know anything about you.
I'm sure they'll be nice whatever they make, but truly custom they are not

Butt section or handle ? What length rod ? My advice would be cut out the middleman and go straight to a builder.

Also depends what you're going to be using the rods for. When I had my Baby Ballistas built I wasn't interested in a handle length for maximum casting range.
As others have said, go directly to a rod builder.

As others have said definitely go directly to a reputable rod builder, going through a shop will only complicate things and should you not be totally happy you will probably have to deal through the shop to get things put right, and of course they will be adding a mark up.
