I'm looking at getting the fox horizon x 4 13ft 3.5lb tc Rods and 12000 eos fs big pit reels.
Anyone use them and what would you rate them ?

free spirit are far superior in everyway in my opinion.
hand built, superior carbon and superior build quality.
personally I wouldn't touch anything fox as everything I have owned from them has been sub standard for the money paid.
for around the price of the fox reels you could buy much better, if you don't mind buying second hand you could drop on a set of Ci4 shimmys or daiwa tournys.

I will go against the grain a bit 😁... I have the fx13 reels on my distance setup, admittedly normally only used on big lakes in France and occasionally in winter here, but they have been fine...
Smooth and excellent line lay... Which certainly helps on big casts.
I also have the shimano ultegra c14 14000 xtb older version on my normal set up... They are fantastic reels... Deffo worth buying on the 2nd hand market if u see any.

Thank you all il have a good look at some decent second hand reels also for around the same price, I don't mind going abit higher what rods would you recommend? I prefer stiffer rods as if needed I can Fish at distance.

Just another slight negative against the fox rods unfortunately, i have just repaired a fox x5 spod rod for a friend as the reel seat was starting to turn on big casts, what i found underneath was very poor as the seat was mounted on cardboard tube arbours with very little glue, water had got into it and it had gone soggy and started disintegrating. That said i have seen the chap stick a spod ridiculous ranges with this same rod so tje blank seems up to the job.

I'm looking at the shimano tx7 intensity 13 ft rods.
Would you all say they are by far the winner/superior rod compared to fox x4s or even the x5s ?

I have a pair of older TX9 12ft 3.25lb that I bought from Veals a few years ago now they had them on a deal at £200.00 for the pair because they were bringing out a newer TX9, they were the last two they had and had been in the shop a while, good rods but for what a new set cost now I would look at getting custom builds to suit your requirements, I couldn't complain for what I paid but I wouldn't be paying what they want for them now.

Where could I get custom mades for the same price ? Do you think I'd get a better rod out of a custom for the same price ? I've never had a custom rod before so I'm good to do some research.

I have a set of Horizon x5's and Fx11 reels, the rods are the most satisfying rod I've ever had the pleasure to use, granted for the price, they should be, but they've been worth every single penny!
The reels I knew weren't going to be out of this world, but they're decent, I wanted a fox set and they do the job very nicely, and are so well balanced on my rods, compared to my previous reels the esp onyx's, I've done the ice washer conversion recently and yet to use my big rod set up, but it was the only reel downside was the smoothness of the clutch, so can only be an improvement.
I've rated every Fox item I've ever had, almost everything I own is Fox these days, an I'm yet to see anything I read on here, nothing has missed a beat and I'm more than happy with it all!
