I'm aiming to do a bit of float fishing for fun with a mate on quite a small venue holding carp of 1lb - 22lb max. I have a decent set up for specimen anglng - carbon carp rods, baitrunners etc but clueless about float rods/reels.
Looking for a float rod and reel that will be strong enough to land the biggest fish at this venue (if lucky to catch it) but light enough to stalk. I will be mainly fishing the margins or not further than 20ft to islands.
Ideally I would prefer a rod that's not too long. Dont want to break the bank so budget around £100 but can go a bit higher rather than have a broken rod.

TF Gear compact commercial 10ft 2.5lb £35 for the rod make a perfect surface rod and Daiwa ninja reel 3000 or 4000 size can get one of these for £50 or under

What about something like the Wychwood riots 45 reel look decent for the money or the smaller Sonik xtractor 5000 GS reel

Skip the Xtractor reels, had 3 of them, had bad experiences with all 3 as have others.

if you are going to be float fishing for carp to that size i would go for a avon or barbel rod personally. i'd stick with 12ft even when fishing the margins if float fishing, though 11ft would work (unless there is a specific reason for a shorter rod like overhanging trees - but again, if mainly fishing the margins to 20ft out then no real need to cast overhead and a longer rod will help with line/float control).
Plenty of decent avon/lighter barbel rods in your price range.

Arrgh too late. Just bought the TF gear commercial 10ft. rod. Am I going to regret it? Think I'll hold off buying a reel until I have more suggestions.

Nope you won't regret it the TF Gear compact commercial 10ft 2.5lb rod is a cracking rod for the money I have 3 of them and their a joy to use

Phew....thanks mate. Just deciding on reel. Quite like the sound of the Daiwa 3012A match feeder reel but rather someone with a bit of knowledge give me a heads up on difference between all 3 of these Daiwa ones:
Daiwa 3000 Model: 3012A Match/Feeder. Ratio 4.7.1

Thanks, I did have a look and see it was but the place is closed and not doing postal orders either. So I've gone with the Daiwa 3000 match/feeder reel for £46. The rod was only £34.99 so total is less than I expected..
