Been using a greys 12 spod rod for the last 10 years and it's now very soft
Was so pleased with it I upgraded to the grays 12-6 distance spod rod
Used it once and found it like a broom pole- could not cast it with any control under sixty yards
This was with a midi spomb - went back to the 12 foot and sold the 12-6
Now looking to buy a new rod - most of my fishing is 50 to 100 yards with the midi spomb but will be using it in France with the large spomb and particle up to 125 yards
Looking at the free spirit rods but there is a lot of choice
Have read all the reviews on here and the internet and spoken to Walkers about it
Do I need to go to 13 foot or can I stay at 12
There is the options of the ctx, lurcher, E class spomb and the s class
Do I need to buy two rods to cover both scenarios
Can anyone recommend any of the rods that will cover this please

I'm quite interested in the responses to this, I've got a greys spod too which is user friendly and pretty nice in the 40-70 yard range, and a couple of fox xt 13ft spod rods I'll take when I expect to be fishing beyond that range, these are not user friendly in the slightest, and are really horrible to use below 80 yards.
I'd like a rod in between the two, something for up to say 110 yards comfortably that is still forgiving at 40-50 yards.
I can hit 100 yards with the greys but it feels like it might explode and accuracy goes out the window

I'd say the FS Spomb rod will do what you want but it's most comfortable 60 yards and beyond imo

I had a greys 12ft 6inch spomb rod and as you say very stiff I could not compress it.
I got a fs lrs 12ft and got the reel set put to suit me.
Love it and I can put a large spomb 120 yards and a medium spomb 140 yards.
Getting a second one made at the moment to use as a marker rod.

I've messed around with a few over the years which resulted in me spending a fortune on a custom made FS ‘S Series' Spod rod which was superb for distance. Went for the 4lb T/c version as advised by the rod builder and worked great for me. I simply wouldnt have compressed the beefier 5lb t/c version.
I've tried the FS spomb rod (the original one) and hated it, was heavy and imo didn't suit the smaller midi spomb at shorter distances.
Although I have others I'm currently using a £30 chub marker rod for the midi spomb up to 100yds, does the job perfect and if it explodes, who cares at that price! The midi spomb with boilie is light, I'd have no issues using it on a normal 3.5tc carp rod.

Same duggs, my old Greys spod has stood the test of time though and I certainly give it some beasting 😂 , I've had to order a new long range rod though as it just won't get me that extra few yards I need

The one I'm looking at is the tackle box cfx spod, seems very highly rated, but as always reviews focus on how far you can put it without many comments on what it's like closer in. I don't want to carry two spod rods to cover all bases anymore, especially as I haven't had/wanted to fish further than 110yds for a long time and the fox rods come into their element beyond that

The tb cfx comes with a 4.5lb tip and you can purchase the 5lb heavy duty tip seperate
So far so good for me, impressed with it

All good but I tend to use the bigger spomb at that range just so I can get more out.
Im a boilie man at heart so this sort of range I would just put a load in the stick and do it that way, can do 8 at a time or something like that.
I think all rods built for a bit of distance don't do the short stuff well, its that in between bit but not an issue.

Reading the reviews on it, it looks to be a distance spomb rod - an animal
There must be a rod that can accurately cast a midi spomb 40 yards and also cast a large spomb full of particle 120 yards
Looking more and more like I need to carry two spomb rods.

I'm using boilie mostly, but with how I prep them they don't hold together in the stick, and I can rarely use one in the daytime with the birdlife about.
With every water I visit stuffed with weed in the summer I use the little weed rakes on the spod rod a lot, and don't usually go beyond 50/60 yards in that situation which is great with the greys spod but you won't always know in advance what you'll have in front of you.
