I'm looking at getting some customs built up and have narrowed it down to these two blanks...I think.
I was originally thinking of a Armalite mk3 build (bit of a nostalgic thing really) as I barely fish at range and love a decent parabolic action, but lately I've been swayed by these Harrison blanks.
Like I said, I barely fish at range, and nowadays fish mainly smallish club lakes. I have a set of 9 footers in the boot for spontaneous sessions after work, and I have my distance rods for France trips. I'm looking for a set of nice all rounders, that are enjoyable to use, but won't leave my hanging if the fish start showing 90 - 100yds away.
I'd love to hear of any experience with these blanks, and maybe even the armalites...

Very much a personal preference choice, having used both I personally preferred the accurix as it felt better playing fish and casting with smaller weights which I prefer to use on smaller intimate estate type lakes. Sold my aviator flex after brief ownership as a friend wanted to try them and I used his accurix and we both preferred his rods.

Owned the 3lb Acurix and now own the Flex.
To be honest, (and this probably won't help!) I love them both.....fantastic blanks and a joy to use.
The Flex just swings it for me with slightly more backbone, especially if you like using solid bags....the Acurix didn't like lobbing them over 40/50 yards and although I agree the Acurix is better with small leads at short range I was happily chucking 2oz 75/80 yards at the weekend with the Flex with no accuracy issues.
If you are using straight light leads at medium range then go for the Acurix, you will love it.....if however you want to have the ability to go further with heavier leads/bags then the Flex would be my choice and you will love them too...!

The flex is a very very capable rod indeed, they can really belt a lead due to being so easy to compress, play fish very nicely too with plenty of feel and a nice action. They have far exceeded my expectations distance wise which i didn't initially buy them with distance in mind but have found myself reaching for them on the bigger waters, they just impart confidence with a decent wall thickness to the blank and feel very robust.

Thanks for the replies lads. I think that I'm leaning towards the Aviator flex, mainly due to its versatility. In an ideal world I'd go for the Acurix as I love a softer blank, but I have been caught out before when I've had my lighter rods and needed that bit more oomph!

Don't forget the 13' Aviator Plus - slightly higher test curve (3.5) but being 13' it has a lovely playing action.
100 yds well inside its capability.

I've got a set of flex and love them. Only used them a couple of times so far but they are a joy to play fish on and cast well too. They've got plenty of backbone when needed though
