Got some casting lessons coming up soon and want to set up spare spools ready. Haven't done any fishing with shockleaders but thinking of using 50lb whiplash as my shockleader. Does it matter that it floats or do I need a sinking leader like the one Gardner do.will also use a small lead core leader to protect the fish flanks

As a fishing leader, found 30 lb sinking armakord very good, no need for the 50, I never broke this with 5 oz leads on C2d's giving it the big un for months of sessions.. Found the 50lb too wiry which would cause frap ups as it coils off quicker than than the main line... What I would say is, before knotting it, exercise the braid that will be knotted between your nails to wear away the manufacture coating which can cause knots to slip, I then superglue it if braid to braid and do the tag ends short as it will never slip, never would I glue mono and though as it certainly weakens it...
