anyone go sea fishing on here ?
I am off to ilfracombe hopefully for a weeks holiday and would like to do a bit of sea fishing, can anyone recommend a cheap rod and reel set up ?
Don't want to spend loads as may only get used a few times every few years but dont want to buy anything thats not up to the job and dont even know where to start with sea fishing.

Go into a local shop once there,they have cheap starter set ups in most of them.When we go Brixham i just buy one,some leads and mackerel feathers and away I go.Its great fun and the lads in the shops are very helpful,if you want to fish off the rocks with floats they will help you out and show you how to set them up or just freeline rag worm for the wrasse

Your carp gear will cover most things.
Spod rod with a leader for feathers off the beach, 3oz lead, plenty to get you out there. You can use the same rod etc minus the leader for a bit of float or ledgering in the harbour's , get yourself a drop net though.

Just clean it all thoroughly after use as the salt rots everything

If you're beachcasting you'll need a better set up. Your carp gear will be adequate but not ideal.
For a bit of fun you could try spinning for mackerel / float fishing off the rocks for wrasse, mullet etc. with a bit of bread / rag worn / peeler crab / creeper. As already suggested, a cheap rod and reel will do you for a couple of hours fun.

Many's the time I've stopped off on the way home from the syndicate on a Sunday for a few Macky's , un loop the spod, loop on a set of feathers and away we go, 3 hours later they're on the BBQ

My long range spod gets more use beachcasting than it does spodding
A bit of white insulating tape on the tip helps if you stay on into darkness.
When I used cheaper carp rods I found them good for bass lures, I wouldn't risk my Harrison tho.
A shovel is handy to get your bait, ten minutes work should give you enough lug worm for a tide
