Hi. I have 3 x free spirit hi s I've er that I no longer use - they are in very good condition
I listed them for sale and had a lot of interest but the 40 mm ringing seemed to put people off
They seem to be going for around 900 with the 50mm ringing and I was asking 700 for mine
Could anyone recommend a builder who could convert the ringing and at what cost please
I am sorry if it's in the wrong section - yes they are for sale but I am looking for advice on the ringing costs - many thanks

I rebuilt my 15 year old NGs (as a hobby rod builder) and decided to upgrade them to 50mm it cost me well over £30 in materials per rod so that estimate is way off , you've got every ring to move up one and a new tip ring to purchase my guess for a rod builder to do this job would be over £100 a rod in labour it's self then the rings to purchase

Really can't get with the 50mm fad, they look sh1t in my opinion, they even put the things on the Black Ops Scopes FFS, they'll bring out 60mm next so everyone rushes out to upgrade to the new "in thing" coz some YouTube angler has them now

I also had the hi s in 50mm ringing
Comparing the rods side by side
It's only the first three rings that are different
One the 50mm the 40 is the second ring and the next one is the third
I would only need to buy the 50mm ring and then move the others to suit
Was hoping someone had already done this and could give advise on cost etc

You also have to consider the desire a reputable rod builder has to undertake this sort of work. Some won't do rebuilds others will but only as a full job not moving a limited number of rings and reusing some of them.
I guess the reason is it is just not cost effective work to undertake.

I agree, when I had my rods built, I thought I wanted 50's, but he actually advised against them and went for 40mm K series.

I was thinking just swapping the 40 for a 50 but yeh, i suppose on such a high end rod you would have to re-do them all so they were graduated correctly.
Just not worth the hassle.

On the 50 mm ringing it's 50 - 40 - 30 - 20 - 20 end eye
On the 40 mm ringing it's 40 - 30 - 25 - 20 - 20 end eye
So if you fit the 50 and then move the 40 and 30 you have a 25 left over
I have hi s 50mm rods and 40mm rods When next to each other this is the only difference

If you have both and the 40mm are not attracting the price you want why not keep them and sell the 50mm? (You will probably say they are different test curves and you need the TC of the 50mm rods which is fair enough).
Either that or just sell the 40mm for the going price, it would be more cost effective than paying for three rings to be whipped on each rod plus the cost of buying 50mm butt rings.
As to why people like 50mm ringing patterns, and are prepared to pay more for them; I put it down to a type of mental anxiety and/or thought conditioning brought on by excessive social media use.

I have already sold the 50mm rods
Looking on Facebook the last 2 sets of ER 50mm went for 900
After eBay costs this just under 800.
I was looking at a price to allow for changing the last three rings
I'm in no hurry to sell but they are now to stiff for me after my back operation
I have bought some more hi s in 12,6
Cheers

Cool, sorry didn't realise you had sold the 50mm rods already.
I still think it is going to cost you a lot more than £200 to buy 3 x good quality 50mm butt rings and pay for someone to remove and redo the bottom 3 rings. Therefore much more cost effective to sell as is. Good luck and I hope you get the price you need - just need the serendipity of the right buyer at the right time.
