I'm still learning and not very advanced in carp fishing. I'm no tackle tart as I can't afford all the highly expensive gear but can anyone tell me the best thing I can get for around £40 that I can unhook carp in, use to hook up to my scales to weigh the fish and also use to get the fish back into the water if on a bank where you can't quite reach to lower the carp back in with your hands? Advice would be much appreciated.
I'd have thought a matt and flotation sling would be your best bet - will struggle to get them for your budget new but have a look second hand.
Would imagine you'd be able to pick up something like a chub cradle and sling for £40 second hand.

I would second the JRC Euro Mat for all but the biggest fish. Unhhoking mat and weight sling in one.
Keep an eye out for second hand ones, there's a second hand one on the Bay at the moment.
p.s. If your ever in the Hastings area I have a large beanie unhooking mat you can have, you would just need a weighing sling then.

I find great for using as a mat but is a pain for putting back fish into the water as you've the zips that have to be zipped back up so far so that the fish doesn't fall out of the sides. Then once to the water you've to undo the zips to release it. Much better with one of the magnetic weigh slings. The avid weigh slings fits perfectly inside the Gardner sling mat too.

didn't know magnetic one were available, I Use a flotation /recovery sling and a cradle personally, the sling has a zip which has to be done up for security much like the gardner one I guess.
Will be looking in to a magnetic one tho

If you can locate one then the avid weigh sling is a great piece of kit, makes things easier too and fits inside the Gardner mat.
Edit - the avid weigh sling has around a 2 inch lip either side to prevent fish from sliding/slipping out. Take it to the water and just open it up on the water, lift the carp above the lip and away it safely goes.

Gardner xl safety weigh mat could be worth a look, as has already been mentioned. Does everything you need in one package at a reasonable price imho.
