I've been making my own pop ups using the BAF mixes. I always include a bit of egg alb. They are tough enough but not what I'd call hard. There's a lot of diving birds on one of my waters at the minute so when I make my next batch I'd like to make them a lot more resistant. I don't just want to add in more egg alb as I don't want to affect how well the baits pop up, so i was wondering if whey powder might be a better bet, but ive got no experience of it. If not what would you recommend?

Cheers

Whey and Alb in equal amounts will give you a hard bait , it may affect the buoyancy a little though .
Have you tried simmering the baits for a bit longer first ? You could always coat them a little afterwards if you think the attractors have boiled out

I would try boiling them for up to 3 minutes if you are not already doing so.

Thank you for the replies. I've definitely not been cooking them for that long. The next batch I will keep the mix the same and increase the boil time and see what happens before I start mucking about with my mix.

Thank you.

Air dry them well afterwards too.

From what I remember back in the day, too much whey made baits rubbery and harder to roll.
Getting that balance right took several batches

You need the Whey Gel HG80, not the other Whey proteins. 10% each of that and albumin, and only use the egg white as liquid, remove the yolk. Also don't add oil unless you have to. That combo, and then the BAF mix, will go hard, and stay hard.

Try meshing the baits. You can then avoid having to put too much grotty albumen etc in the bait.
Are you sure?
