Hi, hoping you guys could please help with some recommendations on kit to get started? My 9 year old son has been showing an interest in carp fishing and I'd love to take him and get him started. Around 10 years ago I was a keen carper myself but unfortunately due to work I had to stop going and ended up selling all my equipment. So I have a basic idea of the kit we will need but I'm obviously very out of touch with what brands, models etc are now considered good and worthy of my investment.
We'd really appreciate rod, reels, pods, day shelter, line, landing net etc suggestions, that would really help us.
Also as I will be putting in a big online order to buy most of the kit, any suggestions on what online retailers you recommend would be great 👍🏼

How much do you want to spend?
As for online retailers, Johnson Ross and The Tackle Box are competetive on price, reliable with good customer service. Angling Direct and Total Fishing Tackle might deliver on price but not so much on service.

Not a tackle recomendation, but If you're just starting again, I found this article quite useful. I've just started again this year after about 15 years out.

What the major change is since you been out of it is the days of big everything is not the way now it's small kit small rods reels ect ect a friend just started again and started buying after 10 years out he started buying big heavy items I put him right and once he saw the lighter smaller kit he lost money and sold the stuff he bought here is a few I recommend

If you're looking at getting a whole set up you'd probably do better to buy second hand someone selling up as a job lot.

Best bet is to call someone like Johnson Ross and have a conversation. From my experience always happy to give sound advice if needed and easier than getting a list of brands and items where you may need to order from multiple sources. Most brands do decent entry level kit and for terminal tackle I would suggest looking at companies such as Bank Tackle J Precision and Hobo Armour as much cheaper than the main brands and at least as good quality

As long as you give them a good idea of what you want I am sure the Tackle Box Darenth will sort you out within your budget and give you any help and advice needed.
