So I've got the brown looking Ultegra Ci4 14000's and the line getting behind the spool does get pretty annoying and worries me chaffing the line. I've been interested in the XTB Techniums since they came out for the weight saving - as small or insignificant as that maybe. I did have a play around in the shops with the new Techniums and was pretty impressed to be honest. The only reason I've not pulled the trigger is line going under the spool. Does the line still get behind the spool on the new ones?
What's the wear and tear like with the new Techniums? Do any of you fish really big pits with 150 yrd plus chucks that have punished the new reels and have they taken a good kicking and abuse or do they fall apart and make funny noises?
I'm not interested in the top end Diawa's as they seem far too flimsy for me and the 6000T Diawa far too heavy and much prefer the Shimano's as the Ultegra's have been great so far.
What's your take guys?

I've got ultegras and never had an issue, even with fluoro. Try putting the fluffy bit of velcro around the inside of the spool. Should stop it getting behind there.

The new mgs and power aero's have got a new line guard system.Its got a wider piece under the spool and it actually works.

No I had the aero technium 12000xtc then the black 12000xtb mgs and they both suffered the issue

Serious question and not having a dig: do you go much? If you do use them a fair bit,.maybe you're doing something the rest of use aren't?
From what I can make out, the Ultegra's that I've got and the XTB's that where out at the same time share the same line guard design; I cast out about an hour or so ago and got a big bow in the line (140 yards or so out) frantically trying to turn the bailarm over...bosh, line behind the spool. Using 16lb Pro Clear and had been cast out quite a few times before line wrappage. Well annoying.
Serious question and not having a dig: do you go much? If you do use them a fair bit,.maybe you're doing something the rest of use aren't?

Me, 1 or 2 nights per week so a fair bit mate.
I don't overfill them other than that keep the line as tight as possible in use. Always cast to the clip and let the lead down on as tight a line as possible.
Genuinely don't get this problem, but also don't suffer line twist like some seem to on here and don't get the "infamous" bad batch of line etc
