I recently bought a secondhand wideboy, it's all in great nick but when using it the elastic seems to be too stretchy and I am starting to feel the bars underneath. I am no lightweight being 6 foot and around 17 stone so was wondering if you can upgrade the elastics and if anyone has done this. I have seen elastic kits for it on eBay for about £25.00 but I really want to try and upgrade to some heavier/ stronger elastic.

Shouldnt need to Try tightening it up before you buy anything should do the job and if that doesn't work then buy heavier elastic

I have a wideboy and I have threaded paracord around with the elastic, this stops the sag. New elastic will help temporarily but paracord is a better fix

I've got an original wideboy (for French use only) and I'm 15 stone . . .from new it started to sag after the first couple of trips (2 weeks) so I bought 4x Nash bedchair straps (think they were sold in pairs at vast expense!). . .not sure whether they still do them but they are basically 2 inch webbing straps that lock with snap connectors and can be tightened up between the elastic loops on the frame . . .they do improve the comfort (but not massively) and can be left on indefinitely . . .I put 3x across the lumbar and 1x across the head section . . .

I've had my Wideboy for probably 10 years, I bought it from Bennetts in Sheffield and they have to have gone bust nearly a decade ago now, anyway I love it. I'm 6-3 and nearly 17 stone, and use it probably half a dozen times a year, I would get out more but bringing three kids up presents its own challenges.
My elastic has not sagged, it's mega thick elastic so I don't know whether they thinned that out in the subsequent models, I remember an article mentioning something about that.
Personally if that were mine I would re-chord it in brand new elastic, which I am sure you can pick up online. You could unthread it and re-thread it to try and tighten it up a bit but I'm guessing if its been used by a 50 stone whale then its probably seen better days, and as the guy below says you can try and wrap chord around to try and stiffen it up a bit, which is always worth a go.
Either way definitely worth saving as its a fantastic bed
