Apologies for another 10ft rod thread
However, I have a couple of young sons and after going out with them yesterday the 12ft rods I have looked awkward for them.
They have for their first couple of years been used to fishing small commercials with light feeder rods and 2500 reels. Now moving to a 10ft carp rod for the bigger stuff, I don't really want the to feel like they are holding a scaffold pole. A bend in the rod is a lot more fun in my eyes for a youngster.
Looking at a lot of the shorter rods they are far too beefed up, surely a 2.5lb or 2.75lb rod is perfectly fine for carp fisheries in this country (coupled with right gear). For that reason I've looked at the shimano tx2 2.75 and the tf gear compact 2.5. My thinking is when I'm on my own I could have some fun with the shimano at an extra cost. However from what I've read on forums on the tf gear, it's a cracking rod and will suit both my kids and I at a great cost.

Yep TF Gear 10ft compact commerical 2.5lb cracking rods for the money and the bonus is they come with a full length handle unlike a lot of other shorter 10ft rods that had short handles and their joy to use around £30 each of eBay . I have 3 of them and their great rod for the money had fish up to 31lb on them and also come with lifetime guarantee .

Wychwood Extricator or Riot in 10ft are decent value for money IMO.
I use the Extricator mostly for stalking/surface fishing and love it. Not heavy under tip IMO. Think it's either 2.25 or 2.5lbs TC. The Riot is 3lbs I believe, which I didn't require.

Hva a look at the daiwa crosscast in 3lb .... its a very soft rod, it really isn't a 3lb rod in comparison to most on the market...

I have some Sonik Extractors in 3.5tc they are progressive action not like a broomstick as I was lead to believe

The korum opportunist rods are brilliant for kids, short carp rods have handles much too long

Got my boy a pair of tfg banshee stalkers matched with 6010 gt's seriously light and at 9ft just right. Also I can nick them for a bit of floater fishing 👍

I got the shorter one for my son when he was around 4ft4 and it made a world of difference for him, quite a big difference in handle length between that and the avid exodus rods I have. I borrow the korum myself as its much nicer than the avids and I'm 6ft

I have the riot, Not poker sticks by all means, find them fun to play fish up to high doubles on them very nice rods for the money
