Whats folks thoughts on using the XTD 5500 reel on a spod rod. I have a spare reel so thinking i would make use of it.

I've got one I use on my scope spod better options out there for a normal 12' spod rod but would do a job

Thanks. Its going on a 12' spod and would like to hit 100 yards without breaking me back so if a bigger reel will get me an extra 10 - 20 yards then I will sell the 5500 and get the xtd spod

You'll be fine with that reel hitting that distance. It will just take a bit longer coming back

In these modern times most 'Spod Reels' have exactly the same internals as their 'normal' carp reels.
Except the retrieve rate and size.
Cheaper to make.

If the retrieve rate is different then they cant have the same internals, a faster retrieve with same size spool and rotor would would have less winding power due to internal gearing
