Hi I've managed to crack the top ferrule on my 12ft 3.25 CTX rod, the crack is around 15mil from bottom of the ferrule towards the rings. Was thinking I could whip it and coat in varnish, or saw the bottom 15 mil of the ferrule off.
Anyone done the same and have any ideas ?

I wouldn't take a hacksaw anywhere near a rod. Work a bit of araldite into the crack and whip as tight as you dare and quite a way up and you might get away it. It will always be a weak spot and prone to failure. Rather then lose a good fish, test it in the garden and give it a good solid pull past it's test curve. If it survives, you've been lucky, if it doesn't, at least you know.

Sorry to say in my experience anything other than very light cosmetic damage to a carbon fibre rod means the end. Contact the manufacturer for a replacement top joint would be my advice.
