Blimey it's been some time since I visited this dark corner of the web.
Finally finished my degree, little un has reached an age where I can consider taking her for day sessions, so I thought I'd ask some questions and see how the olds guard are doing.
What's changed in the last 6 or 7 years?
What are the new fads to avoid?
Where had Eric's angling gone?
Suggestions on mainlines and hook length materials is welcomed.

What worked well 6 or 7yrs ago will work just as well now, don't get caught up in the ‘must have the latest & greatest'. Eric's was bought by Angling Direct

Start growing face pubes now.
Get yourself a wooly jumper and a hat.
Get as many irrelevant tattoos as possible. Preferably full sleeves.
Start a blog 🙂
Apart from it getting a lot busier and more knobs go fishing nothing has changed mate. Carp fishing is still the biggest buzz in the world.
Well done on your Degree...... We need more educated people.

Must be something in the water (no pun intended) as there are a couple of other lads with similar threads about coming back to carp fishing after some time out.
All the good advice is simple as said - don't feel you need to spend loads of money on 'new' ideas. A sharp hook is still a sharp hook and fish still like to eat.
There's a lot more instantly accessible material out there now I guess. But quality is always better than quantity. Remember who you liked to read / watch 6 years ago? They will still be good for tips and advice.
Some very well read and experienced anglers and venue owners on here. Bait thread can be a bit commercial but I guess that's the nature of the beast.

I'm pretty sure most of us have gone back to being secret agents smothered in secret sauce like the good old days.
Linky poo Gerry is still a mainstay (but he'll cost you) and Hearn is probably the only one who could convincingly grow facial pubic hair.
Just enjoy what you had because it's still there and leave the Bosh, goo, spodding and social media alone.
Carping hasn't changed, it's the world that's going nuts!!
