Hi guys, I am thinking of buying Powapacs Atom with solar panel but not sure if it is over gunned for what I need. I have small power packs for my phone and iPad but am wondering whether the Atom could charge my 2 x Lithium batteries for my Anatec Catamaran?
It takes 2 x 7.4v 12ah batteries each with a mains charger so would need to plug a dual 240v adapter into the Atom and charge simultaniously if possible.
Any ideas if this would work?

It seems a very extravagant way of doing things especially as you already have power packs for your phone etc.
Why not just buy extra batteries for your boat or are they hard to change?
Another option for you to consider if you wanted more back up power would be an inverter powered from your car battery, which combined with extra boat batteries would be a more cost effective way than what you suggest.
Charging batteries from batteries is not particularly efficient but if you really do want to go ahead then check the input needed for your chargers and if more is available from the power pack then it should work.

Powapac atom 78 fantastic bit of kit and perfect for charging these relatively low capacity lead acid batteries. You could certainly do one at a time without issue but not sure about the two......can't see why not.
Mine does my Li Ions 14.8v much greater capacity easily off the AC plug.
Defo speak to the team at Powapacs as they are very good comms and helpful. AC power is limited to 150w max surge limit.

The power drawn by the battery chargers will depend primarily on what their charging current limit is set at, therefore battery capacity is not necessarily the defining factor.
One advantage of Li ion is that they can recharge much quicker than the old lead acid ones, the down side for the OP is the charger would need much more current to do this.
If for instance the chargers each have a 12A output then power required will be in excess of 86W each so more than 172W total.

Sorry should have added a bit more into my reply. As you say 86w is totally doable and so within safe capacity for Atom for a single battery

In rergards to buying a second set of batteries - I use the Anatec Catamaran with the Lithium ones which are £260 a pair so I was thinking if £260 put towards an Atom and Solar did the job it would be a good investment and being able to charge my phone & bivvy light would be a bonus.
I have sent PP an email with all the details and will see what they say. If it will only charge one battery at a time I may look at a second pair instead due to the time involved but will see.
