Anyone else spending time talking to groups of people online these days?

Any tips apart from the obvious 'you don't have to wear trousers' or 'fill your coffee mug with alcohol'?

The 'put some impressive looking books on a shelf in the background' tactic wore very thin very fast.
What are the cool kids doing?

I sit in my car, on the drive. My work laptop hates WiFi and 4G can't get into Faraday Cage House. I also can't then be judged by colleagues on my books, Lego, decor or how long my children are playing Fortnite.

I still judge their decor, I won't be following up any actions for anyone who has a room looking like a display in Next Home, has either vertical radiators or blinds, or that has no books on display at all. Or crap books. Or a lamp that looks as if it was born as a camera tripod but had a identity crisis.

I'd love be inventive and have some subtle jokes going on in the background but that would take effort and time and who has any of that these days?

Me, Skype and Microsoft teams mainly. Pain in the arse but I suppose that's what we get paid for

Use it at work for the majority of meetings and at home, when I sit there looking at the garden day dreaming, thinking I would rather be fishing or doing something useful, when some boring bugger is going on and on, sorry, what did you say, I missed that, can you repeat it please

Tip 1. Only turn on your microphone when you need to speak, then you can talk or bang about as normal and if you want to say, what an idiot you can, just remember to mute the mic.

Tip 2. Don't put the video on, just do audio, you can still do a few jobs then, tying a rig or two up is good lol

Another good one for a bit of humour if you have a few like minded friends in the meeting is to see how many song titles or lyrics you can get in. I don't know, every time this happens “it's like the sun going down on me”, “I'll see you when I get there”, sorry? “See you when I get there”... deffo need the mic off for this when listening in lol. Great when others don't know what's happening

Fake minutes are good, we used to rotate and write up fake minutes, with a bit of a piss take. DH was talking bollox again and we all agreed, he was talking bollox again. Obviously you need to do this with trusted friends lol

I used to work for a Japanese company and were encouraged to use their language. We used to have a Yorkshire interpretation sheet that we created, shared and added to

heijunka (work load levelling) - Make enough n make n mor
genjitsu genbutsu (Go and see) - Get thi sen off thi arse n av a look
Hansei (Self-reflection) - Thas made a mess a that
Just-In-Time (JIT) - Has tha made em yet?

I could go on but as you can imagine, when you heard these words it was hard to keep a straight face in a meeting when you know the true meaning lol

Some expert-level tips there Scozza, great stuff.

The Japanese - Yorkshire phrasebook is fantastic!

The in-car solution cuts out all the environmental worries, which is a real plus, but isn't there a risk of kids sneaking out and banging really loudly on the roof when you're least expecting it?

Like somebody once told me Jon, you should only arrange or attend meeting if they are useful

If they are not then you have to make them “useful”
Are you sure?

This action cannot be undone.

Yes, continue
