I've been making a few boilie test batches up recently with whole egg powder instead of eggs , I'm including at least 150ml hydros when mixing , what sort of ratio are you guys using in relation to water when including hydros in your mixes ?
I've made some cracking Liver hydro baits with PDFM included at around 10% and milks 10% to give me a nice soluble bait , breaking down and emitting food signals over a 48 hour period , would be good to hear your thoughts on inclusion levels of hydros in your mixes

Been using whole egg powder (BAF) for several years now, I've used hydros up to 100ml
I do it all by weight
So I start with 100grams WEP add flavours, Hydros and any other additives
Add water till total weight 550 grams
To this I add 1 kilo of my base mix.
Obviously it will vary with different base mixes and I've not used hydros at 150ml but I have tried 3 different base mix's and 550grams worked with 1 kilo base mix for each of them

Thanks for the reply Mark
I tend to use approximately 100g to 125g WEP to a kilo of base mix depending on its make up , seems to work just fine around this inclusion rate for what I want , I never thought of weighing it out and mixing it with the hydros though , cheers

Hi Andy
Yes it works fine, i just put a plastic jug on the scales, weight everything so its adds up to 550 grams then put it in the liquidiser. then chuck it in the dough mixer with a kilo of base mix. I do actually double up so i'm mixing 3 kilo in total at a time.
I do that because my rolling machine is a bit more sensitive to the texture than rolling tables are, so by doing everything by weight all my mixes are consistent and roll perfectly.

Brilliant
I will be trying this
Brilliant
Could I ask some newbie questions with regards to this please guys. Sorry to high jack your thread carpe_diem.
What is the advantage of using egg powder over normal egg, is it just cost or more to it than that and what is hydro's? is it just a food liquid. I've only just got back into my carping and see a few people mention it but when I look it just seems like some sort of glug or am I missing something.

Hi Mark , yes when I say ‘Hydros' I mean things like liquid foods , i.e. liquid liver hydroslate or liquid fish etc.. and for me personally using egg powder is about 2 things , firstly convenience , and more importantly in my eyes you can get away with adding a lot more liquids in your mix than with just plain eggs , increasing attraction and solubility of your bait's attractors

I see, more liquid attractants that can only be a good thing, sounds like a plan to me. What about the binding quality that the egg gives you. Do you have to replace this with something else to help binding or use more of something else?
Also do you add any water or just hydro's?

The powdered egg replaces the fresh eggs so binds just the same.
Read the second post it explains about the water
The main advantage to me is as explained in my last post, the consistency of the mix, Even graded eggs can vary quite a bit, I like the mixes to all be predictable and the same so I don't have to watch the rolling machine.
The other main advantage is it's easier to store a bulk container of powdered egg compared to fresh eggs and it works out cheaper

do you use tap water or buy bottled water to mix with egg powder

I use bottled water, probably makes no difference but its cheap enough.
Just don't like the smell of chlorine and fluoride in tap water
