Currently looking for some new reels, wanting to go back to daiwa after using ultegra's for a season and preferred my old tournament,s, question is do I go back to 5000t's/ss3000's or are the newer emblems worth a shout, got a budget of around £600

I've been bit if a reel slag over the past few years after my emblem Z's finally wore out. I have found that new Daiwa's are every bit as good as old, maybe better. Shimano wise, I have found that the older reels are better then the new. Just my personal findings, and obviously I can't comment on the longevity of the newer reels....as they're new.

I used Daiwa reels most of my life. The last set I had was some ISO's. Me personally, wouldn't touch the newer stuff, look awful to me.
I used some infinity's for YEARs, close to 20 I bet and I simply cannot see all this modern bling lasting 20 years like infinity's or the old tournaments do
Saying that I've had some ISO's got rid of these, Tech mags, got rid of these, crap. and settled on some old Power aero which I find superb. Saying that I was adamant I was going away from Daiwa and using Shimano for a change
As for Shimano modern stuff, same as Daiwa for me, bling, bling, bling. I bought some 14000 Xtas were they? and put them on some distance rods I had. paid around £130 each, cheap crap imho
Reel on rod, forget about it for me, all this bling you need a mat to put the reels on to stop destroying them, never mind the fish

They are the only significant thing that hasn't improved over the last 10 or so years

Ive bought the new 35 emblems and whilst i do actually like them, ive had to have one replaced already
I wont go near new shimano stuff

Had 3 since 2001.
Just had them serviced last year (tackle box) literally a few small parts replaced and feel amazing

I bought 6 infinity on ebay second hand ten years ago and had them serviced , also have some ss3000 I bought in 93/94 that I had serviced 3 years ago and they all work great. Why change when they have never let me down.
My vote is for the old reels.
