I'm sorting all the gear out (As I'm sure you're all doing as well). And I've recently purchased a spod rod and went to tie a shock leader on it, only for me to see the hundreds and hundreds of knots available... I've decided to go with Double Uni Knot as that seemed to be the best but what do you use to tie the leader to the main line? The Double Uni knot seems to be uneven as the armokord is much thicker than my spod line.

Personally I use a back to back grinner and never had issues. I use braid to Mono tapered shock leaders.

Did look at that but was warned that it wouldnt be as good for my braid to braid set up. Just out of curiosity but do you use mono on your spod rod?

can use mono on your spod reels if you wish mate stops pain in the arse wind knots from braid. but have to take into account of the stretch of the mono and not hit the clip too hard of you risk it breaking. I use braid to a 50lb braided leader attached with a back to back grinner. keep the braid wet and you should be fine.

Try the Mahin knot, also nicknamed "the carrot knot" as it beds down quite long and thin (hence the nickname) and causes less friction and clatter then standard "rounded" knots.

Ive used the back to back grinner for years with heavier braided leaders onto thin braid mainline when spodding for years with no problems at all

That's the one I use

Back to back grinner is fine mate, we use for mono-braid or whatever. 5 x loops through each end.

Used back to back grinners for years with no issues when joining braid to braid or braid to mono(. 4mm or less). I take extreme care with my knots and if its not perfect I will tie it again as many times as it takes. Lots of people lose faith in knots because they are poorly tied.

You could use the Yucatan knot mate. Very simple and won't let go. Double the thinest of the lines your using to make a tiny even knot.

For braid to braid I use and highly recommend the Mahin knot.

I would also say Mahin knot.
I found with some slick braids the knots can almost pull through so i added a single overhand knot on the end of the shockie and then allowed the shockie to slid and butt upto the overhand knot and it acted like an end stop.

I have always used back to back grinner with no problems. Brought myself the free spirit spomb rod at Christmas and found the knot to catch on the new minima guides. I have recently tied the mahin and the taper looks great. Obviously I haven't been out yet to try it but I'm hoping it eliminates the problem I had before. Gardner have just released a very easy to follow video if that helps you.

That's the one I've used. Never had a problem, though not used with braid

Not used shock leaders in carp fishing yet but used the Mahin knot for all my beach fishing. It's been superb.
