What's your thoughts on this, totally risk less or a bit irresponsible. Initially I thought best place to be as I've heard most saying. But starting to see more folks saying it's irresponsible much safer to stay home.
What's your thoughts on syndicates and club lakes which are gated obviously all Anglers coming and going will be handling the padlock codes etc? Plus general hygiene on the bank is never the best.......

As most anglers are solitary why should it be an issue

I miss fishing. But I'm not that desperate to go that I'm prepared to take any risks with my health or other people's. For that reason I'm gonna give it a miss till some normality resumes. I shall content myself with making pop ups, tying rigs and watching stuff on YouTube.

Virtually all my waters are closed until June 16th so I would only be fishing day tickets for a few months anyway. Giving that up doesn't seem that much of a sacrifice in the grand scheme of things.

There's growning evidence to suggest that our coronavirus infection curve is mirroring that of Italy. They implemented a partial lockdown at 200 deaths, similar to us. That failed to flatten their infection curve so they went on to introduce a virtual house arrest/curfews etc. That's almost certainly going to happen here in about two to three weeks, so ultimately the decision is going to be taken out of our hands anyway.

Can't help but agree mate, I'm absolutely gagging to go especially with it coming into prime time now and unlike you my syndicate is open! Just feel it's a a bit selfish and irresponsible maybe. Especially my thoughts on all the Anglers coming and going handling the same gate/padlock.
It's just the thought of getting it in that way but not knowing initially or at all and then passing it on to friends or family possibly... tough one and much tougher times!

Other countries are already doing lock downs.
A lock down here is inevitable.
I am self employed and will be affected like others as will have no income while not being able to go out to work if it comes to that.
Going fishing will not be deemed essential by the Government unfortunately.
And so it will have to be put on hold.
I will be over the moon to be proved wrong though.

Ok here's my take on it. So far when the government has asked the general population to do something, it's largely been ignored. Firstly they asked for people not to go to pubs, but they did anyway. So then the pubs were ordered to close. Secondly people were asked not to panic buy, they did, so the government got all the supermarket bosses to impose two and three item limits. Next they asked people to stay at home, and yesterday the Lake District had one of the busiest days on record and west wittering beach was forced to close due to unprecedented numbers of visitors. Again completely ignoring the very reasonable government requests. So a lock down is inevitable now I'm afraid.

But what will stop huge numbers of self employed people from staying at home? Lack of income, that's what. So expect to see early this week the government introduce financial support for the self employed that mirrors that already in place for the employed. Once that's done I think you'll quickly see all but essential shops and factories told to close and very rapidly after that a full lock down unless you have a damn good reason to be outside.

I hope they do help the self employed partly so we can do the right thing and stay home but also because before long no ones gonna wanting work to be done anyway and I definitely wouldn't blame them! Obviously I'm basing this on self employed tradesmen like myself but obviously all self employed are gonna need the help.

This chart lists the amount of deaths in Italy and those in the uk but two weeks apart. As you can see we mirror their infection rate and a partial shutdown failed to stop theirs. We have the luxury of a two week window to try to do something before our numbers spiral like this. But only if we use that two week window. So my take is expect a full lockdown very soon.

Fishing is quite isolated and the risk of contacting COVID-19 whilst at the lake is low however you still need to drive there and risk having an accident and ending up in hospital or using our emergency services.
Driving to work if you cannot work from home, getting food/medicine shopping or going to doctors/hospital I would class as essential for the time being.........going fishing is not.....stay at home and give the needy a chance....
