Just getting back into carping is there anything online to show me how to use pva bag stems properly please they weren't around when I was carping either photos or a vid on how to use

Yep, straight to the mainline. I usually put a couple of tungsten sinkers above to help sink the line near the rig. I tend to use them more for tench fishing.
Palomar knot for me as you can pass the loop right over the bag. Just be careful when tightening the knot down.

The best bit of advice that i can give you is stay away from the avid ones
Like almost everything that avid make they are dross. Ive had 4 go (from 3 different packs) all with fish on.
They either snap at the swivel or the swivel comes away from the wire in the stem
Utter garbage
