Hi, I'm joining a water next year, 22 acres with loads of hidden corners, snaggy areas. Basically I have limited time with family comitments work etc. I've been out of carp fishing for a while and money is limited so I want the right gear from the start. I will have time to walk round, bait areas and hopefully find the fish but not for long sessions and maybe the odd overnighter. I've never stalked out fish and I thought this would suit perfectly given the time I'll have. What do you guys think? Would a pair of 6ft rods be good enough and if so which ones? Any help would be great!!

If you are truly stalking then you will rarely need a 2nd rod imo. I find i use a 9ft rod far more than the 6ft one, i like the slifhtly longer rod as it helps with lowering the rig in in the margins. The 6ft only gets used in extreme swims where there is no headroom. If you do buy 2 rods make sure they breakdown to small enough to leave one in the boot.

Maybe I'm getting caught up on the short rod fad. I definitely want to stick to stalking as time will be short and I don't want to be sat behind motionless rods, I've done loads of that in my past fishing and I think that made me fall out of love with it a bit. My own fault I know. Would 9ft get any distance? If maybe I saw a fish 50 - 80 yards out?

Yes, if you pick a reasonable test curve model, could do both in the edge up to 75 yards easily, whilst still having a nice playing action.
A quick chat with your local tackle shop and the lads on here, should give you good pointers to a good all rounder 9ft/10ft model.

You should be able to get 80 yds with a 9 footer as long as you have enough weight in your lead. I bought a 9 ft rod specifically for stalking couple of years ago and TBH it doesnt get used I find my 12 ft rods to be best 99% of the time.
The rods I have at the moment is some esp vertex 12''9ft 3 1/4 test curve which are great when I've fished big open waters in the past but won't be suited for this water I'm joining next year. It may be 22 acres but it's not just an open water, there are lots of bays, snaggy areas, fishing short to islands etc.

Those rods seem fine to me, with careful use, unless it is really overgrown all round it, overhead trees, etc.
It the 22 acre water weedy ? You may need the extra backbone if it is, later on in the year.

I've got a 6ft dwarf it's brilliant you hardly even notice you've got it with you. It's so small you can take it anywhere with you.

I do loads of stalking and do carry two rods most of the time. A six footer and a nine. They're both Scopes and sit (just) in my JRC Euro Zip Mat with all my other bits and bobs. I can walk around for hours looking for an opportunity if needs be.

Do you usually just carry these around with you? I really want to go the stalking route, I just think it would be better use of the tine I have. I assume the 6ft is for the tighter situations? Can you cast well with the 9ft rod?

Yes mate I just carry the loaded mat around on my shoulder.
The 6ft rod is set up with an inline lead and the 9ft rod has a float setup on it.
Personally when I'm walking around I'm only looking for close in opportunities and have no intention of casting any distance to fish, but my 9ft 2 1/4tc Scope will easily throw a 2oz lead 60yds if needed.

I've got 6' Dwarfs in 3lb and found them fantastic for the same type of fishing as your about to do.. Then I got some 9' Dwarfs in 3lb and they are even better! That extra 3 foot can make a difference when placing baits over weedy/reedy margins. They also feel better in my hands. Both rods will cast 50+ yards if need be but obviously the nines are slightly better for that. I do wish I'd of gone for the 31/2lb nines though for the extra backbone as I've been using pva bags a fair bit but so far so good
