Around 25000 people die of it a year in the uk, and its believed that a person will catch flu roughly every 5 years, so the chances are those that died probably have caught flu circa of 10 times in their lives. So probably alot more common than you think.

Free testing won't be scrapped. When Omicron became dominant in the news, combined with people wanting to meet family at Christmas, we had a tidal wave of testing. The media hysteria didn't help, but people were genuinely testing too much. This is the Govts way of trying to reset the balance.
