The problem with Alps comes on distance casting blanks which usually have a larger diameter but section this makes total sense too if you think about it logically.
The blank is built up with tape so for example if you have say a thin 3.25lb 12ft rod and you require 2/3mm of tape to make the 18mm diameter seat fit snug thats a 2/3mm void the blank can flex in. If you get a 13ft 3.75lb rod and maybe you got 0.5mm of tape thats not alot of space for the butt section to flex inside a 6 inch long rigid Aluminium seat that doesnt want to bend
I have had this conversation with a few rod builders and one tournament caster and he knows of a few century rods that have blew just infront of the alps seats which makes sense. But most people who have alps with these powerful rods will never compress a rod to a large enough extent for it to become a problem anyway.

I dont really like alps seats but have them on my century 2.5 graphenes and they are also on my century graphene spod rod which is a quite thick out and out casting rod and thats had some proper abuse but there all still going strong with no breakages. Im pretty sure my spod rod would of broke by now if there was a problem with the alps seat.
Mind you, the more i see the net the more i like it as i wasnt keen on it at first but the mesh is way to deep for me but they are bringing out a shallow mesh in a few months. No one will ever stick there £250 nice shiny net handle into the lakebed like they say on the video mind, so thats absolute ********.

I've never really understood it or wanted to do it either lol only way I can see why is if the margins are shallow and you don't have a way of holding the fish safely while getting weighing and camera gear setup

some places are now banning retainers because of misuse so the idea of holding a fish in landing net for couple of minutes sorting weigh/camera gear out has been a compromise

I get that, and i have always retained fish in a net while I get the kit ready, night or day.
But these beauts have the nets lined up ready for the morning picture, all nice and recovered after a few hours in the net and really frisky and ready to drop and damage the tail.
Utter selfish weps.

johnson Ross advertising they're doing custom built kaizen rods, so if you're not happy with the cheap reel seat or guides or lack of line clip you can add all the extras with johsnon ross to make them rods just that bit more expensive🙄

Yeah I kind of agree if I'm honest. I appreciate that we all want a photo of our prize in the best light possible, but cameras are so good these days even on phones that a half decent night shot is possible and get the fish back as quickly as possible

I noticed that in the new thinking tackle they was leaving a few carp in the retainers and nets for hours till day light, every lake I've ever been on would ban you for that
