Of course someone can be objective, that's the whole point of a debate....to put a possible viewpoint across for discussion.

Eloquently put, but id suggest looking up the definitions of objectively and subjectively as i think you may have them the wrong way round
And what you are basically saying, is that people shouldnt discuss anything with an open mind. Have an opinion, give it, explain it, then shut up. Or listen to someone elses opinion then change your mind and shut up.

I don't think I have Heff
What I am saying is that if one has an opinion, it's very easy to chuck it into the fray but not stand behind it. And a perfect defence to that is to suggest that you are simply throwing ideas out there.

It is possible to have an open mind. Listen to someone else's thesis, and still come to the conclusion that they are full of s!!t.

It's also easy to simply dismiss something that you don't agree with instead of acknowledging a suggestion and putting a reasoned response across.....

That's a slightly harsher viewpoint but nonetheless, the essence of the point 😁
I'd hope we all have open minds to understand and possibly learn from another's view on a particular matter, but, objectively (as that's the word of the evening) this one seems impossible to rationalise.
Its shape and the way it attaches..how anyone can see past that is a mystery

I don't think there is a single poster on this thread who has said/suggested that they as an individual feel that the Twig is remotely acceptable though?

That sounds extremely positive then 👍

Is the whole point of the forum, not to discuss subjects though. As spod says, no one on here, that ive seen anyway, agrees with this product. But it exists and some people have discussed it and the surrounding issues. Others seem to be refusing to accept any subject raised other than its dangerous and should be banned everywhere, by everyone, end of, mic drop.
Perhaps getting rid of the forum, taking the discussion out, and just having polls with limited options is the way to go

Let's stretch the debate out then as to why it's right to exist/use (whether we agree with that viewpoint or not).
Will that spice up the thread?
I can't think of a single aspect of it that makes sense. Mic drop or otherwise. I would be intrigued on another's view as to why it's acceptable, aside from "fishery A uses it".

I've said I don't like the thing - think it's dangerous and should be banned everywhere- I can't believe AH has continued to back this ridiculous idea unabated. But in the style of my Mrs there are certainly positives.
I have never heard fish safely and conscious talked about this much, a great thing.
It opens the minds of us to what rig problems we may want to solve.
It has shown that innovation is not just about being first to market.
Just those three things have advanced places like this forum. The people who previously cast out ‘should be ok rigs' thinking deeper about the side effects of poor rigs.
People thinking about proper rig mechanics and can shock and elasticity be an Ed vantage.
Finally and we've all done it - thought up something good only for someone to say ‘what about blah'
Inadvertently AH could actually have done fisherman a favour, by creating a herd mentality that has seen straight through this ridiculous idea. I wish he'd admit it, lick his wounds and try again, as we learn the antis get more ammunition.
Like many things in life, race, religion, sexuality and even football it is when something so bad appears that people come together - a debate, not one about the twig, but about caring for our fish and ethics. So yes it's a bad idea, yes it may cause fishing pain, but in a small way it bonds anglers that previously survived on bitching about stuff that really doesn't matter.
Long live proper debates and opinions, eventually even the deaf hear

He is selling "The Emperor's New Clothes" to people . It's clever showing a few underwater clips and saying that's what happens every time , but the truth is you can't prove it . With the rat trap on your line it will be sprung every fish you land surely , as even if it's hook traditionally against the rig as you play it the pressure will set the rat trap off at some point 🤔 . Then some loud bloke will shout "there you go hook a duck"

That's not a debate on this Forum though, there's no-one on here (openly anyway) suggesting that it is acceptable or right to exist/use.

But thats the argument isn't it? That if this existence of any thread is to debate the point, if we are not debating it, then what on earth are we talking about. Either go hypothetical then or go home is the essence of the point
That seems to be one angle
